Hi everyone! I was just dropping by to say that i'm working on the graphics for a human simulation game using DBPro. It's called "Peoplez", and everything in it will be 3d, which includes all of the GUIs, the "Peoplez", which are the characters you create, the objects, the sky, and the land. I'm going to program it so that the 3d buttons (cubes) on the 3d panel (a plain) have collisions with the 3d arrow (blue triangle), so when the arrow collides with a button, something will happen according to what button the arrow collided with. That will make the selection of objects more straight forward too. Then I wouldn't have to do as many math problems, like for calulating the distance of the mouse from the object.

In the included zip file, I have some older and newer images that I rendered of the peoplez (not in game yet). Notice the heads and eyes are different the images. The newer ones have the same body I made, a different head I made, a black background, and are nude (without any female or male differences, the body will be the same for both boys and girls).

I made a few objects for the game too. These include 2 tables (a fish tank table, and a wooden one), 3 things to sit on (a toilet, a chair, and a couch), and a garbage can.

I already planned alot of this game out for a long time, along with 3 expansion packs, each with their own theme, and movie, and graphics.

The characters of Peoplez will have hair (the newer head version, with a black background), but I want to make it dynamic and animated, so i'm planning on getting an OEM version of 3ds Max 2009 some day. I've heard that it's better for game art, because it's easier than Maya, or any other profesional software for animation and modeling. I wanted to wait until I get it to make the hair and clothing for the characters. 3ds Max 2009 can make dynamic clothing, and I anm planing on making animated clothing and hair using the cloth feature. I downloaded the 30 day trial, and so far i don't know how to use it well enough, so I will also get a book about it.

Anyone interested in human simulation games? That's what Peoplez is going to be, but with a chibi anime style for the characters. Keep in mind that it will take a really long time for me to make this though.

I'm serious, and is anyone going to reply to my question: Anyone interested in human simulation games?

I also just need opinions on which characters look better for my game (excluding the other stuff in the renders, like the sky, and grass).

Please click the download button to see my graphics renders in Truespace 7.5 (the ones with clothing), and the Maya 8.0 renders with the black background, and no clothing, or hair.

I know the characters with clothing probably look better, because they have clothes, hair, and different light settings. But those ones with clothes and hair are probably not going to be used in my game, they were just "test renders", and they were my original graphics. Now I made a new head for the peoples, and new eyes (as seen in the Maya renders), but I am going to keep the same body for the characters.

i would say dont start making expansion packs if you havent completed the main one yet otherwise you get distracted and the quality slowly slips away...........

Working on The Hunt and 7 Stages both are text based games want a demo of either then just ask.

Woo big download .rar anyway...

You mean chibbi style like the sims game on the wii?

*sims* has opened a big market for clones, just be aware if you hope to make a comercial project the *sims* creators may have something to say, if its for personal pleasure/enjoyment in making ie not for making money go for it. I will surely have a play.

will take a look at the rar files when they download..

get us a mini-demo and post in work in process forum and you will get lots of people interested.

I thought I made it into a .zip file, so it would be lower in file size. And yes, I mean chibi style like the Wii game called "My Sims". I don't have any code yet, but lots of graphics! With that said, I won't have a WIP or demo for a long time, as this game will be hard to make because it's a human simulation game.

Our original home game business started when I was young, and we only had Dark Basic Classic at the time. I started learning programming with a book called Game Programming for Teens, and I also used Blitz3D at the time. Our original home business was called "TriAlliance", and that's where I got the name to use as my username here. Now everything in our company has changed. I have a new name for our company now (and i've been calling it this name for a while now). The name of our home game making business/company is "Spludge Interactive".

I've been working on the official Peoplez website, and the official Spludge Interactive website too. They are not on the web yet though, so you won't be able to find them, and i'm still working on those sites. The Spludge Interactive site already has tutorials using Truespace 7.5, movies/videos i've made with various media, a gallery, music made by me (using Ejay Virtual Music Studio), links, and a home page. Once the Peoplez game programming and art are all done, i'm going to have a large tutorial on the site, that tells a little about how we made Peoplez.

And by the way, I am planning on selling this for like maybe $10 or $15. But, it all depends on how much work and time I have to put into it, so the price might be higher when it's done. I will sell my games on the Spludge Interactive wesite.

I don't want any complex shopping cart system for my site, but I'm thinking it would work if I made a system (or program) that checks to see if someone clicks the (to be made) "Buy Peoplez" button, it will take them to a screen where they just fill out their email address, press "send", and I will send the .exe of Peoplez to the email that they send me after they pay via credit card, or PayPal, as soon as possible.

Do you think this will be a good way of selling my games?

And

Do you think I shouldn't sell my games (or should I sell my games)?

I want to make some money! (i'm still in high school, and don't have a summer job... yet).

Zip is larger than .RAR .

Hey, guess what! I started coding the Peoplez game! This is what I have so far (see code below), but I need some help cleaning out the errors. I don't know why the same message keeps coming up, and then closes my program. I might need some of you to look at and/or compile my program, in order to get some help fixing the code.

The media is attached too, as a zip file, along with the mini movie for the beginning of the game (turn on your speakers, there's sound in the video!).

The backslash is there I guess, it's just when you post with them sometimes the forums removes them, who know why?

I wouldn't use static paths like that. It breaks the program if you move it to another folder. I would recommend you use stuff like "eyes purple.bmp" instead of "c:/program files... eyes purple.bmp" because few people will place it in that folder.

The backslash is gone because that's a PHP symbol. PHP filters it out, and the whole forum is PHP! I'll check the RAR file later.

Um, not sure I would agree with that, plenty of people get slated in WIP becuase they only have some media and or limited code.

Thats my personal opinion (and only my opinion), if you truely believe its worthy of WIP then you should prolly move the post.

<back to the thread>

Firstly you need to change position object to position matrix in your matrix creation. (you would prolly find it easier to put each command on its own line instead of grouping using ( as it will help when debugging, the error could have been any of the 3 parts of code but splitting would have givin you the line number)

Secondly probably the most important although this may be because of something I'm not aware of but loading the animated.3ds file seems to make the program crash. (you can check this by putting a do/loop command in just after it. Handy to check where code fails although probably not the best way, but its a tool )

thirdly I agree with all of the people above cut out all the direct file paths, use no path and store the media in the same folder as the .exe until you have a few then put into there own folder types makes things a little easier.

there is no 4. Simply because as your program crashs after loading the model I can't really check much more without a lot of effort.

I recomend going back to the basics and getting one peoplez on screen with a set eye/skin colour then build back in your selection/matrix and cam code.

hope that helps a bit,
