Well, theres no harm in constructive crit so here goes.
It's difficult to judge a WIP of a character without a wireframe, but first up, I'd have to say the hands need work. They've got a bit of a "matchsticks in playdough" look right now. The arms are actually pretty nice, but the way they join the body is a little odd. He has torso wings which make it look too wide at the top.
The WMDs are fun, but they need alot of work on the textures, right now they're very blurry. Your satelite weapon thing is very cool, and could be a lovely set piece in a game, but even though you've "re-jigged" the texture it still looks a little to stuck on. Why not try texturing each section individually rather than having a wide texture that alot of the piece share? This would give it a more co-herent look.
It's a cool start though, and as you said, a background scenery objects they're cool.
