Hey all i thought i would let you in on what im currently trying to achieve.

The premise is a sidescrolling shooter.

this is going to be heavily influenced by the old SNEs game Area 88/UN squadron which in itself was based on the Manga/show Area 88.

i will give a little detail on plot and theme etc:

Game:
as its my first game i only want to achieve a title screen, 1 level with an end of level "boss" and a few enemies along the way.

When the game is complete i will take the same engine, update the graphics etc and add on extra levels weapons and effects.

hopefully by the second sequel, it will be someting half decent...

Plot:
a group of mercenary fighter pilots based on the aforementoned "carrier 14" called to shoot down n escaping c-130 hercules (to be used as boss)

Theme:
2d side scrolling, no special weapons in this game (its my first!)
basic backround scrolling and a few enemies along the way to the boss (the part i have the most trouble with) surprisingly i got the gun to work!
Health/ lives are based on a health bar in game and when depleted removes a life.

So this is a (poor) screenshot of where i am at.



The odd line in the backround is the image not "matching?:" at both ends to give the desired scrolling effect. ( i said the graphics were basic at this point)

Anyway i will try and get some code up soon.

Cool, but photoshop and texture maker are 2 really nice seamless texture generators.

I prefer Texture maker best

You should work some more on the graphics.

Else then that, its ok

And btw, its easier to make a 3d sidescroller game than a 2d one.
I only use 2d for huds and stuff..


Dont delete my sig mods, it is 600X120...

3d eh? thats intersting, how though is it easier? apart from graphics?

i like my 2d graphics you see!

Shove the 2D graphics on 3D plains (or whatever they are called) and then the backdrop on another 3D plain. Thats what I do and it works a treat for me.

It does make things easier, especially math-wise. Also allows for nifty rotation on the z axis for better effect, and 3D shader support if you decide to go that route in the future.
