I got x10 about two weeks ago but I can't figure out how to get it to work properly. Is there a tutorial anywhere that will help me. I did search the forums and got some help, but I don't understand some stuff like making alpha maps etc.

Thanks

Yeah I was looking at that thread earlier today and it helped a lot, but not enough cause my bump map still doesn't work.
I am confused on how to make the specualr map and add tha alpha channels in Gimp. Is a specular map just a greyscale of the diffuse texture?
Thanks for the help Nomad Soul!

Sorry I posted with the wrong profile in the above post.
I redid all of my textures and added alpha maps (I think) but my bump map still didn't work. I have no idea what I am doing wrong. The image just shows up flat.

Odds are you are either missing your x2 and x3 textures. Or they are not rendered properly. To make sure, you could copy your x1 to x2, and x3.

Note: x is S, N, and D.

Uthink, the reason why it looked messed up was because the texture was a was not a perfect square. I fixed that, but even with ambience all the way down though the room was very bright and the normal map was hardly noticable. I can't figure out how to make the alpha channels and I don't know how to make a specular map. I think that will fix the problem.

If I recall correctly, Crazybump will make one.

you can set crazy bump to generate alpha maps.
But you have to set you alpha in the specular from
white to black, otherwise your segment would be bright even
with ambience to 0.

If you have Photoshop you can view channels in botton right corner using the same tool as the layers are in.

Specular map needs to be Gray Image but still (RGB/8) and add a 5th channel using the tool in the bottom right... this new channel added will automatically be alpha.. click the properties of this channel... make sure its color is black and its 50% transparent...

TIP: you can take areas in your specular map that you want to be Shiny and make then Whiter in the gray scale part of the map... this well make the light shine off them more.... If you want Areas to appear lit you need to add white or gray to the Alpha channel.. which well make them lit even with 0 Ambiance ( IE Small lights etc on the wall/object.)

Hope this helps
