It changes your sky ingame. Try to drag it around and see if anything changes.

Do you have any folders in the skybank subfolders whose names are more than 3 characters in length?

The subfolders can have more than 3 characters, but the sky folders inside them shouldn't.

I read the other forum thread and can't think of anything other than something like this maybe messing it up.

I have 38 skyboxes, each has their own folder (see attached screen grab) and inside each is a 3 letter folder.

They are all DDS files right, not JPG?

I know that some of those have more than one (the stock folders have 5 each), so you have more than 38 total.
I bet that is why you got that 123 count or whatever it was.

Try removing some in case there are too many, like the ones with the special characters.

If those folders have skies that you use alot, then go through and sort out others you don't use often.
Save them in your assets, but only have your top 100 skies in the program files for the slider.
I'm not sure what the cap is on those, but I can't image needing more than 100 skies at any one time.

That sounds like the third sky is probably causing the problem if it is not the count being too high.
On second thought, maybe you should start removing them with the third one instead of those others mentioned above.

A 3 character limit? Wow, what logic went into that?
Granted, I don't have a lot of skyboxes. But if I did,
it would be rather difficult to be descriptive.

It does seem that X10 doesn't like other skyboxes in the skyboxes folder apart from the default.

Yes, it is a bump, just giving the info.
