Hello again everyone. Here is the next addition in "The dark City" series.

Cosmic Prophet's "Biulding Blocks".

I've recieved e-mails asking about the segments I used to create the buildings in the Dark City screenshots.
Well, They are'nt segments, or models of whole buildings. They are entities representing a single floor of the building.

Each model is 5X5 units. They can be stacked in any combination to create your own unique buildings. Floor by floor. They can be placed by themselves in a scene, or stacked on top of any 5X5 structure you build. This makes it easy to give the illusion of really tall builings with only a few accesable floors and basements. It also makes it a snap to build odd shaped blocked stuctures where one side is shorter than another. Each floor is a sinle 6 sided block so polys are kept low in your scene.

There are 25 building blocks in volume 1. Volume 2 with 50 blocks will be available in the store if I get enough possitive feedback on these.

Hope you find these usefull. Licence is included in download.

screenshot: This you've seen before, these are building blocks with my Dark City street stuff.

This 'building-blocks of hi-rise floors for mix and match' idea is very clever.
This pack is very clever, very nice, and very generous.

Thanks

Note: there are 2-sided, and four sided blocks in the pack. you can rotate the blocks to get a different floor on each side so it dosent get too repetitive. And each side of the building looks different frome each side. The constrution site buiding is an example of a four sided block on the bottom, with 2 sided blocks stacked and rotated on top.

BTW: I will have a lot more stuff available in the store in about a week or so. Most will be free with a few special items at a "VERY" reasonable price. (I have to charge somthing for some items to utilize the store). Maybe some cool nickle entities might be nice.

Clever idea. Are these basically prefabs? New original Prefabs seem to be an unexploited option in FPSCreator. Good work!

No, they are not prefabs in the general sense, like those that come with FPSC.

Those are structures built from segments. These are single block model entities. The advantage is this: If you build a 5X5 struture one level high, you would use 20 wall segments, 25 floor segments, and 25 cieling segments. Now add your windows. thats a lot of polys to build a 1 story structure. If you build a 1 level 5X5 struture with a "Building Block", you are using a single model of a box that contains 12 polys to do the same thing.

That's what make this so ingeniously clever.

Thanks Conjured, Hey BTW, You guys are welcome to rip these apart, change the textures, and make your own. Just take any wall texture, brick, stone whatever, paste some windows on it, and scale it to fit the existing texture.

If you do, I'd like to see what you all can come up with. Have Fun!

I was going to emulate it, so using your entities that are arleady scaled will save me time.
Thanks

I think I will make some 3x3s and 3x5 and other sizes for stacking though. (maybe roof caps too)
Again, great idea you have here.

I know, but I like your mix and match system for each floor.
That is far more dynamic, and will enable me to get more use out of each entity.

you are a... GOD.

it looks like a box though... it could be a bit more hi-poly, and the textures look a bit blurry... but this is... beyond my skill

i love your models, keep up the good work,

sonicreator 2006:

That's what they are suppoed to be. "Building Blocks" What you do is: build a 1-2 or 3 story bulding using segments as you normally would that is 5X5 units big. Then you stack as many building blocks right on top of your structure as you want. You end up with a building that has 1-2-3 storys accessable to the player. But from the outside it looks like a 10 or 15 story building depending on how many blocks you use.

You can easily change the textures of the blocks to make them look however you want. Because they are ment to be viewed at a distance you don't need them high res. If you want, you can add your own textures, and create normal maps for them to give them more realisim if you plan to use them as stand alone buildings.

TBGalive: Thanks buddy, I'm just trying to do my part as a fellow community member. So far everyone here has been very kind towards me. And that really makes all the difference. Sure, I had to prove my metal, but thats to be expected. It can be hard to gain the respect of people in any new environment. There are some very smart, and talented people here on these forums, and without them, FPSC would be a bust. I'm just glad to be accepted as part of it.

Thank to all, TCP

Cosmic Prophet,

Your entities rock! They are some of the best on the forums, and they are some of the easiest to save and download to the correct files.

Thanks!
