Two questions for you experts:

1) Say that I wanted to have 2 characters, one holding a cane and one not. Could I "attach" the cane to the one character or would I have to make two completely different models? I know in some engines you can and some you can't.

2) Is it possible to change the colors of an instance of a model? Or does it have to be a separate model/file?

This is important because my models aren't that tiny, and I need the game to be downloadable. So, if there's a way to optimize it (like what I'm asking above) I'm willing to try it.

a total noob.

1.) Look into the command "GLUE OBJECT TO LIMB" or possible the ADD LIMB / LINK LIMB commands.

2.) COLOR OBJECT or something like that, I believe.

1. As Bmaczero said, gluing objects is straightforward, and as long as you orientate the cane properly it should be fine. If you need the character to do something special with the cane, say walk with it as if crippled or something, then it's best to animate that as a seperate character model with cane included.

2. You can re-texture an object, so if you have a variety of character textures you can swap between them. There is a plugin that would allow you to specify areas on a texture and then affect the colours - this would save on having to make lots of different textures in an art package. Can't recall the name, but it's by Wolf, one of the EZ range.

less is more, but if less is more how you keeping score?

Oooh! That's exactly what I need! I found the old domain, ericksonline.com, but it's deactivated. If anyone knows where the new WOLF site is, please tell me.

Thanks!
