I have made a human model, that i want to texture. Blender doesn't have the best paint feature, so I want to make the texture on gimp.

How do you get it so that you can edit a UV image on Gimp and then in darkGDK do dbTextureObject and it will work fine?

Thanks for any help.

The only way I could figure out was to just take a screen shot from the UV editor and paste it into whatever you want and play with it there.

Set one of your windows to 3D View in UV Face Select mode and have another window set to "UV/Image Editor" (I assume you've unwrapped it already?). In the UV/Image Editor window, click UVs->Scripts->Save UV Face Layout and it will export a Targa file of the unwrapped faces.

One other question, which unwrap method should I use? I have version 2.46, and the tutorials all say use this method that I don't have....

2.46 changed the UV menu system, and, IMHO, made it worse. I liked it having a separate menu, and I always used the special debug hack that made unwrapping ridiculously easy. For the new version, I say just mark your seams as normal (ctrl - E), and do a straight unwrap after you have them sorted.

It's something that a tutorial or someone there to help would make really easy, and working it out yourself really irritating.

I can't really tell, because I have only had versions 2.44, 2.45, and 2.46 and in 2.44 I was a begginer so I had no idea what I was doing.

That doesn't really bother me. The one part that does is that there are like 60 different choices, smart projection, cube projection, from veiw, etc. I have NO idea which on to pick. And since there are NO tutorials for the new version, I don't know which one works.

i'll try that out, thanks!

Yer sorry my post was a little vague.

Use "Unwrap" when you are marking the seams yourself. Basically, you mark the seams where you want them, then hit that unwrap button and keep messing with seam placement till youre happy.

The others are more automated, but some can yield good results.

Smart projections is great for quick uv-mapping, but you can get ugly seams at times. I often use it for a quick unwrap and texture test.

And I wasn't aware of version 2.46 until just now, so you can ignore what I said lol! So many new features...

All you said will work venge.

The new features in 2.46 blew me away.

IF ANYONE wants the FASTEST and BEST rigging system on freaking sweet mother earth, USE THE NEW BLENDER.

I am never usually this exuberant online, but the new option that allows you to apply a rig to a mesh via "bone heat" is completely brilliant. Everything worked perfectly for me, in one click.

THAT, however, is off topic

I looked it up. BLender 2.46 is pretty good though, I wouldn't get the older ones....

Oh ok, and I have no idea what seam marking is. Where can I learn EVERYTHING/Every step of UV Mapping (in Blender 2.46).

Thanks

Good for learning the interface and basic modelling techniques, but much of it is incomplete.

Well, yeah, but since Valkynaz seems to be a bit new to blender (not sure), it is a good place to learn the basics.

Just new to UV Mapping. I might try importing into Wings 3d and UV Map there...Anyone think that would work?

If you are using blender, then that is not that smart of an idea.

Blender has a really good UV mapping system, although it is a bit confusing.

I know someone who wrote a tutorial on how to get the textures to stay on blender, and also how to use UV mapping

I'll send you the link when I find it.
