Well, a small amount of people have seen my thread (check my signature) about putting the WWII media pack 1 in to fpsc. However, this will be my thread where i get help from you.

Question 1: Is it possible to somehow attatch the gun to the hand bone, so that when the bone is rotated, the model orientates with it? I have tried seletcting the bone, and the gun, and opening the group drop-down, but all the selections are blanked out. Any ideas?

I assume you're talking about the group drop-down inside the Max editor?

You should be using the Link tool in 3ds Max to "attach" the gun to the bone, not the group tool. Once linked, the gun will rotate with the bone as if it was glued to it. To disabled any axis, open the Hierarchy/Links panel and de-select any of the x,y,z check boxes.

Ok... It's not working. How do you operate the link tool? because i click on the bone, then the gun, and nothing happens.

Why not try selecting the gun first, then link tool secondly.

Select the tool. Click on the object to be linked and drag the mouse over the object to link to and release. The target object (parent) will blink white for a good link.

Yes, it works on bones. What are you tying to link to it then?

Here's a WMV video showing you how it works. See the attached.

Oh right, it doesnt work for me because i'm trying to connect it to an actual bone, you know, a biped section.

I have to say, linking some thing is one of the easiest things to do in Max.

I just tested it in Max and it does work with bipeds, so I have no idea why you are finding it so difficult.

A Biped element (arm, foot, head, etc.) is the same as a Max bone so linking works the same.

If you tell me step-by-step what you're doing, it might help.

Well, i open my .max file, with the rigged mp6 arms posed with my gun, i press link, click on my gun, click drag on to my bone, the bone selection flashes on and off, then i try rotating the hand and the gun stays stationary. This process works with the hand model itself, however the gun doesnt move whe i move the biped limb.

The process you're describing should work, unless there's some else going on with the gun model that we don't know about. Is the gun being linked to a bone in the biped (hand) or the model's hand?

Try this if you get a chance: Create a new bone, (not biped) and link the weapon to it. Rotate the bone. Does the weapon rotate? This will tell you if your mesh is okay to be linked.

If you want me to look at your max file or a similar setup, I will. Just let me know.

I don't have the original downloads. If anyone still has the zip files, then send them to me and I'll repost them.
