Milkshape

Does what you want, good tutorials available and exports well into FPSC.

Nice interface which does what it says on the tin, not what it says in the manual like 3dsmax.

There are free alternatives but I don't think $25 is out of reach for most people.

Milkshape all the way. It's easy to learn, and everything you need as far a building your models for FPSC. That's what I use to build mine. check some of my other threads to see what models built with Milkshape can look like when finised.

Again we get to the idea that price equates to quality, not so if your only modeling, Max is so pricey because its a lot more than just a modeling tool, its the industry standard in games and MOVIES, this means its packed full of features that are useful to folks in INDUSTRY not to mention the fast renderer and networking capability to set up render farms, I just cant stress this enough, Max is not just a modeling tool, and if your a learner Max wont help you make great models, in fact the quality of models produced in max alone is no better than models produced in cheaper programs it only becomes great when you buy more plug ins and just increases your workflow as well as your budget and your learning curve.

I also think 3d modeling questions are better asked in 3d chat forum, unless its an fpsc specific modeling question.
