I was wondering if it is possible to convert custom models for Counter-Strike to FPSC?

I ask because I found an awesome weapon model for CS I would love to use for a game I am working on. It is a cool NES Zapper gun. I found one here in the forums, but it isn't exactly as detailed as what I am looking for.

I have attached the original CS version of the models, so I just wanna know if there is any way I can use this in an FPSC Game.

There are a fair few Half life modelling tutorials on the net. Do some searching and you should find what you're looking for.

It is not an official CS model. It is fan-made mod for the game.

This should be in the Scripting Thread, also You can not "convert" it into FPSC it would be a Copyright intrusion sorry

If the #2 pencil is so popular why is it still #2?

It wont, Scripting board is for ideas and fpi scripts not converting, perse he wants to convert a "Model" from the smd format, which can be done easily.

How is this copyright infringement? It is a custom model built by a mod creator.

TBG's sorta right. Even if it's a mod, the creator of the mod probably doesn't appreciate people copying the model. But if you were given the go-ahead or the model is free for use, then it's all good.

Valve can't do anything if you don't redistribute their models.

What is all this talk of copyright? It is a free open licensed model for CS, not an official copyrighted model. I just wanted to know how to convert this to be used a a weapon in FPSC.

TBGalive, I hold two patents and I know alot about copyrights, but you seem to think you know more. If you modify a current item it is no longer copyrighted. I invented a new type of cooling fan for welder's hood, there is already a 6 patents on the same idea, but mine was different, which allowed me to obtain a patent on it. It may not make me any money, but it is mine. So I wish that you and all others stop with the copyright witch hunt. There are children on here and not all of them know or care about it. They just played a game, watched a movie, saw a model they liked and want to make it theirs. I seem to remember seeing that there was a predator, some doom items and many other things on here just based on what we see or play. So if a mod would possibly noob slap TBGalive for awhile ,because I know that it makes it very unpleasent to come here on the forum to see new stuff and see someone going around on witch hunts. I have watched some good people leave here based on stupid stuff like this.

I have to agree on this issue. I also own dozons of copyrights, and if I give an item away for commercial or non-commercial use, it then becomes puplic domain. Which naturally means you can do pretty much anything you want with it. The only way I could sue you is if I maintained certain restrictions on the item and those restrictions were violated. One example of this is the old underground pulp comic character "Mickey Rat" Created by Steve Krupp (now I'm showing my age). It was a character fashioned of coarse after the disney version of a mouse. Even though it bore a resemblace to the original character, it maintained key differences that made it unique and thus fell outside the copyright restrictions. See screenshot. I worked for 3 years sub-contacting art for the Disney corp. And trust me you dont ever want to tread there.

If I biult a model of the Enterprise and sold it to you with a license stating that I'm charging you for the "time, and effort" that went into building it. I'm not violating the copyright. But, if I sold you the same model claiming the design of the ship as my own, I would be in direct violation of the copyright, and indeed could be sued by the copyright owner.

Also, if I built a model for a half-life Mod, and it was not part of the original copyrighted game release, then turned around and used the same model for a DOOM mod, again I'm not in violation of the original copyright.

In closing, let me say that just because something looks like something else does'nt neccesarily mean that a copyright infringement is being commited.

GLI Games: To answer your question, yes. Milkshape has dozens of plug-ins and tools for working with media from several top games. Check they're website for these. And as "Opposing force" pointed out you can find many tutorials in my Milkshape thread. Hope this helps you out, Good Luck, and have fun.

Thanks, TCP.
