I have created a wall and have all the parts to it (The D", N, D, S,) When I add the bumpfx to the effect in the FPS script and go to test the walls dont have any shade to them, they are all bright but the floor is black when I get closer to the light source the floor becomes brighter but the walls stay the same has anyone come across this themselves and can anyone help I added a screenshot to help.

You need to fix the Alpha Channel in your _S texture...

The Alpha needs to be black and 50% Transparent

Hope this helps

I've been looking at how to do this (I'm not too good with graphics). I am using crazy bump, Is there a way in this program to change its alpha or do I need to take it into photoshop? if I need to use photoshop oe paint.net how can I change its alpha in there? I have tried transparency but the walls dissapear altogether even at just 50%.

Thanks for the earlier reply and thanks for any further help you can give me.

my problem is when i turn the alpha 50% black is that everything is too bright at zero ambience. How do you make something shiny but only where there is light not throughout the whole level?

Alpha in the Specular Map _S needs to be black and 50% Transparent.. Not 50% Black...

50% Black makes the Alpha a gray color which causes the Specular Map to be lit in zero Ambiance.

To make things Shiny or less Shiny You need to adjust the brightness of the Gray Scale part of your Specular Map.

Make the gray scale channels lighter makes it shine more... making it darker makes it shine less.

It is best to use PhotoShop for Textures it makes it the easiest to edit/add Alpha Channels..

Alpha channels can be added/edited to an image by clicking the channels tab (It is locates in the bottom right corner .... Same area as the layers are displayed)...

Once on the Channels tab choose the Alpha Channel (if it does not exist click the add channel button at the bottom)... now right click and choose properties... make sure it black and 50% Transparent then click apply.

This makes ONLY the Alpha Black and 50% transparent and not the RGB channels they stay 100% opaque..

The Reason youe walls disappear is cause you made all channels transparent and not just the Alpha

Hope this Helps..

This is my problem I think but how do you edit the alpha channel in gimp? I can add a black alpha channel but i don't know how to make it 50% transparent. If it can't be done in Gimp can it be done in Paint.net or any other program that is not as expensive as Photoshop?
