I whas wondering if I could make somekind of chat room where you need to log in in a host and can walk around with your character and talk to others. Is this possible with Darkbasic. If so could you please give a example.

i don't think the graphics are a problem, nor the chat.

You do get a couple of examples of tcp/ip connection with dbpro.

i don't see why not, we all know darkBASIC pro is more than capable of anything you can imagine.

You may have one problem though. A chat room is usually up and running 24/7, you will need to find a server or at least get a DNS server for your pc, the graphics and how the graphics interact with the chat is fine but i think you will have a problem with the server side of things

Its not a bug, Its a feature

The server wouldn't be much of a problem, well at least not for people like me.Just get one rather high quality pc, and use it as a dedicated server, that could host, let's say 50 people. The graphics wouldn't be too hard too do, and chat is easy.If you don't have a spare cpu lieing around(I have one lieing around in fact), then that should really be the only reason to have a problem with a server.

graphics would just require a 3D program and how to create a human character or two (thousand). a lot for diversity of course . The server shouldn't be a problem either. Coding a server is no problem, but getting all the bugs out of a "multiplayer" style game is. Can get touchy syncronizing, but yes, there should be some stuff on that in DB tutorial.

You wouldn't really need to worry about a dedicate computer if each person instantiating a chat WAS their own server. the biggest problem just might be tracking all the servers and making them available to all the clients somehow. My thought on that would be keeping a list via FTP over an internet site (which would probably need the ability to use CGI scripts).

Current Projects: Game Spawn 85%, mini BSP maker 50%, Height Mapper with many features 75%, Space Tactical (Like BC300AD) 15%.
