Hi
We have installed Dark GDK on a Vista machine along with the Visual C++ 2008 express and the required direct X SDK. Everything seems OK and we can work through the GettingStarted tutorial no problem.

However, when we do the 3D Objects tutorial, all we get is a blank screen.

Luckily we had backup up of the tutorial directory and ran the provided solution without modifying it, but still a black screen.

No exceptions and no warnings. Single stepping through the code the problem seems to be with dbLoadObject() which just seems to wait for ever.

Finally, we installed this on an XP SP2 machine and it all works fine!

If anyone has any clues it would be much appreciated as we are totally stuck now.

Thanks for your help

Well, if you followed that exact tutorial, for me, the object NEVER loads, and I have a vista. When I try loading a different object, it works, it is like that one object just can't be loaded on a vista.

Other then that, I find vista is good, and I don't see any errors in other places.

Did you build in Release mode? That might be it, with all the debug problems in the GDK.

Thanks for getting back to us, and yep it was compiled as debug.

However, we didn't try loading a different object (never thought of that). We will give it a go, thanks for the pointer.

Good to hear that basically running on Vista shouldn't be a problem.

cheers
