I took Rudolpho's advice on making a better song, and this was the product This piece is called 'Dragon's Tear'. It can be used as either a dungeon theme or a battle theme (I was thinking more dungeon than battle ) It took somewhere around 7-9 hours to finish. My goal for this song was to, I guess, make a better song lol A good enough song to almost match up with a song from the Chrono Cross OST. I doubt it can though lol.

I wasn't sure about the drum beat in this song, so I need your opinions if they should stay in the song or not. There is also a very subtle bassline in there.

It isn't very long, but I think I am getting better, so Give it a listen and comment

The next song is gonna be an overworld theme for an RPG

UPDATE: New download

Well, unfortunately I will have to say that I don't find it very melodical
Maybe the drum beat should sound better if you replaced the... is it a cymbal or a tambourin? (I'm meaning the one that isn't the ride cymbal).

Also, it seems that the reverb is a tad overdriven, and the bass a bit too loud.

It isn't very repetative, however, but I strongly suggest you to lower the reverb a bit and write a melody for it - then it could probably sound pretty good

Well, I couldn't properly edit it, for both my speakers are blown and I am listening with the most quiet headphones that you can possibly imagine I'll edit it later today, when I get to my good pc. Thanks for the comment, though

Yes, pull off some of the reverb and tune the bass down a bit. That would be a good place to start. Than when you add a nice melody for it as Rudolpho suggests it will be a nice song for sure. The theme for the song is there just need to tweak some things up and it will be just fine.

All good Dan, just pull some off and lighten the bass about 15-20% and it should sound a ton better. Can't wait to hear the final product.

Alright, reverb pulled and bass volume reduced. Sounds pretty good

One question though, how can I make it more melodic? It has a pretty good melody now, I think

Uploaded Reverb is on the lowest possible setting.

Yeah, it sounds better.
What I meant with the melody part is that you could add a lead instrument that would play some sort of "main melody".

If you're looking for inspiration, I suggest that you play around with a french horn or a trombone to this track in order to make up some melody. If you do decide to add such a melody, you should probably lower the piano level a bit, so that the two instruments won't conflict.

Edit: Or just use the additional instrument to strenghten the piano's melody, if you wish
