Hi there,

A terrible sound, that has nothing to do with the original one, is what I hear whenever I try to play a song (with DBP, of course) in a PC that has

windows XP
DX8.1
Soundblaster live!
latest drivers for audio card

The PC sound is ok and works fine with other programs.
The sound file sounds perfectly well with the windows media player.

The sound file and the project work fine also in other computers.
(nothing seems to be wrong with the sound file or the program, compiled with DBP patch4.1)

Please help, I'm out of ideas

Do you get it with long sounds in DB too? And can you describe the 'horrible sound'-- is it babies wailing, catnails on chalkboard, a fleet of garbage trucks, or just static?

I think I can describe the horrible sound best with the sound when you play pokemon gold/silver on the gameboy and when you listen to the unown music on the radio. That is what it looks(hears) like.

never got a nasty sound, then again my sound card is a 800$ motu, plus i'm runnin through my tascam D1000 (soundboard) so i have all that blocked, all i here is great sound(well after the EQ is turned on).

I would like to describe the sound, it is just garbage. It is like a modem sound but polifonic and stereo, richer in everything but awful, of course.

You cannot stand to hear it for more than 3 seconds, you have to turn off the volume fast if you don't want to become almost deaf.

I've noticed this interference style clicking sound when playing back MP3s. It always happens when you have other programs in the background using sound. Normally if I have an MP3 player open and run a db program the problem starts, but closing the MP3 player down normally sorts it out.

Well, it is a mp3 song, I'll check now any program running at the same time, it should be a resident one. No other 'active' program was running.

The PC is not where I am but I'll tell you as soon as I can.

No luck.
All programs shut down and the problem persist.

I found that Soundblaster driver version is from June 2002. I'll update them and report.

Anyone with old drivers and no problems (soundblaster live! value)?

As an exiled Londoner, I like listening to Heart 106.2 over the web. However, just recently they seem to be obsessed with Mr. Timberlake. I'm being increasingly maddened by the damn song. Its awful.

This happens because you have installed a hacked mp3 codec (like the ones that comes with divx)..

Try opening the mp3 file in "mplayer2" which is the old media player. if the sound is just as horrible there, then this is the reason and there is nothing you can do about it, except uninstalling your codecs (DivX/XviD)...

TheCyborg, that seems reasonable, because I remember ther was a lot of codecs installed.
I'll see if the owner wish to uninstall them and I'll try again.

But now that I think, I also have Divx installed and there is no problem with my PC... hmmm.
