wings3d is really good for a free one, though it doesn't animate. You could just then export it as .3ds file into anim8or and animate it from there.

Truespace 3.2 download the full version free here.Calgari really did a smart thing when they decided to release the full version of 3.2 for free.Gets you a good feel of there products, and it'll do all your animating and modeling.Does take some time to learn though, but it can really pay off.Milkshape is also very good, but don't limit yourself with one program. If you wanna model in wings3d, then animate it in milkshape or truespace3.2 go ahead and do so.Just play around with each of them, and see what you like best.In my opionion I liked wings3d,milkshape,truespace, and disliked anim8or.

You can make animations in anim8tor but you cant export it to any other format (x or 3ds). Othervise its good program for beeing free. May be view control is bit more complicated than it can be. For pure modeling its nice...

Actarus found some program which should export animations to other formats but its in french and I did not manage to work it for me.

well i just use gmax/3ds max ... its pretty easy to use, just create bones and set affected regions (evelopes) then export... and the i'm your proverbial uncle its exports with animation.

lmao, Ditto was the original name for the operating system that is 15% done that i'm making. But since that sounded kinda weird i changed it to Eric OS (even cheesier i know, but um, yeah its just cheesy, may go back to ditto.)
