Hi.
I downloaded the following:
Visual C++ 2008 Express Edition from http://www.microsoft.com/express/vc/

DarkGDK from http://www.microsoft.com/express/samples/gamecreators/default.aspx

DirectX 9 (August 2007) from
http://www.techspot.com/downloads/1957-directx-sdk.html

Then I installed all of them in the order as specified in the video by the link http://www.microsoft.com/express/samples/gamecreators/default.aspx

I haven't touched any installation paths so everything is default installed on my PC.

But when I went into VC 2008, clicked "File->New->Project...", I could not find the "Wizard" templates that suppose to have DarkGDK 2D Game Template, 3D Game Template and the other one I don't remember.
Tried reinstalling, but didn't help. Also followed the steps from the topic on
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=129210&b=22
Actually I had everuthing included, except the last 2 "lib" from DarkGDK(vs9) and DirectX(x86), but still after adding them nothing have changed.
What's up?
ps. is darkgdk essential in building 2d,3d games in vc 2008?

Did you run VC++ at least once before installing the SDK and GDK?

Also, you can use DirectX for game development, but, if you're just starting out, I don't recommend it. Not until you have become quite proficient in C++.

Yes I did.
DarkGDK actually asked me if I did run VC++ before and I said yes.

Do you mean that DarkGDK is just a plug-in of somekind, that makes it easier to program games?

The GDK is something of a wrapper for DirectX functions, that saves time, and converts the whole system to procedural progamming from object oriented. While easier by magnitudes, it's not necessary.

My site, for various stuff that I make.

Ok, I see.
But still why doesn't my VC++ 2008 sees DGDK?

OK lets follow the install order again.

1) you installed the Visual C++ 2008 Express Edition from
http://www.microsoft.com/express/vc/

2) you installed the DirectX 9 (August 2007) from
http://www.techspot.com/downloads/1957-directx-sdk.html

3) you now started up Visual C++ 2008 Express Edition so that it could do some self configuration. (you only have to start it, you do not have to compile anything at this stage)

4) You then tried to install DarkGDK from http://www.microsoft.com/express/samples/gamecreators/default.aspx.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
When you run this install program it will leave open a window with 2 files in it.
One file is the EULA, and the other file is the DECOMPRESSED exe that will have to be run to do the actual installation.

What you probably thought was the installation was actually the uncompress phase of the exercise. You now have to actually run the uncompressed file to install the Dark GDK material.

I hope that makes it a bit clearer now.

How do you mean doesn't see Dark GDK?

Does it not exist in the projects list under wizards or do you get an error at compile time?
