bump and color mapping huh? Perfect, my practice at making mech warrior 4 mercenaries and black knight maps will finally be put to good use!

23 July Update:

Everything coming along nicely!

There's a bank holiday here on Friday so a long hard weekend of coding should see the first beta version of MatEdit Pro go out to beta testers Sunday night...

The MatEdit Pro shell is 99% finished and the Terrain Editor module is approximately 80% finished:

when its done, it will be able to make matrices for DBC, right? Or, with the name MatEdit Pro, will it be pro only.

Remember, what you see in the screenshot above is not MatEdit Pro, but just one of the six modules that come with MatEdit Pro.

MatEdit Pro itself is like a 'shell' from which you call up the external modules, (though it does have many functions itself).

There's a module for texturing, one for terrain building, another for Bump and ColourMapping and so on...

You also get an SDK and skeleton module program with MatEdit Pro, so you can even write your own custom modules - they work like plug-ins and appear on the Modules dropdown menu automatically when you place them in the Modules directory.

For more detailed info on MatEdit Pro, check out the updated info on http://www.matedit.com.

A quick screenshot of the same module while using the Defined Landscapes option sub-function Lock Matrix:

Sounds like something that would modify the edges of the matrix so that you don't have big cave like holes when you want to scroll multiple matrices to give the effect of infinite landscape...not sure though...just a guess

Only for if you want to use User made modules. Check the matedit site.

Its $5.00 well worth it. Im only going to do it to help TDK keep developing.

keeblerElf is correct with his description for the Infinate Matrix Edge option. When you scroll a matrix and the top/bottom left/right edges aren't the same height then as he says you get holes in the matrix.

This option averages the edge heights along the matrix 'seams' so that if the height at the top of the matrix at position 'x' was 200 and the height at the bottom of the matrix at the same 'x' position was 100, then the heights of both would be set to 150.

MatEdit Pro is progressing slowly mainly due to the way that the VanTrans texture routines have been integrated. All sorts of problems I hadn't envisaged started popping up. I think I've got it sussed now.

You can select any 2 textures and generate a transition set. You can regenerate with two different textures or hit the 'Keep' button to transfer the generated textures to the texture palette. You can generate up to 10 sets and flip between them with the mouse or the number keys.

When a generated set is displayed, all textures are shown in their correct positions as in the above screenshots - making the selection a hell of a lot easier than if you had to select them from the texture palette!

The sets are saved with the matrix and on re-loading the sets are automatically regenerated for the display.

I'm sure you'll appreciate that the repurcussions of doing this in DB code have been a nightmare!

I've just started with DBC and wow. This will certainly help.

One question: How do i use them together? ie, how do i get the map i create into DBC? (I'm using 1.6)

I've also wondered that...how do you use a matrix you make in MatEdit in DBPro?

With DBC you can simply export your matrix code, and it creates a file that can be run in DBC (writes code) With PRO, you Build Matrix which creates a .ma0 file, which a function (LoadMatrix("filename.dba")) Reads.
