I've got my site:
http://www.thegameszone.tk
uploaded at the moment at geocities. This was Ok, but now I need to upload quite a lot of .zips and large detailed pictures, which means the 7mb I got has run out. I have tried about 6 other web hosts, but all of then seem to have something wrong with them, mainly that you can't upload a .zip of a .exe - as it thinks the .zip is a zip of the whole website
tripod - I can't seem to upload zips of exe's
1asphost - can't upload .zips of .exe's
brinkster - can't remember what was wrong with that, but something was - i think you can't upload more than 750Kb at a time (correct me if i'm wrong)
free webs - can't upload .zips ( i think) and you can only upload one page at a time (i've got about 200 pages + files in total)

Does anybody know of another free webhost? I need about 20mb probably, and to be able to upload .zips of my .exe games.

Thanks
Robin

freewebs CAN upload .zip's. Not only that, but it can extract them too. Upload your whole site in one file. Great feature! The downside, you can only have 50 files/pages max. I found that out the hard way!

The bottom line:
---------------------------------------------------------------------

THERE ARE NO GOOD FREE WEB HOSTS.

Either fork over the money, or just pick one that has "features" that bug you the least. Or you could get a webhost that allows pages, no ads, but dosen't allow hotlinking, and a webhost that has tons of ads, but alot of space, and hotlinking, then just link from the other one. It's a pain in the butt though.

Fool. Hey.nu lets you upload HUGE files, I haven't ever gone over the limit with my 50 meg files.

They allow you to request more space, numerous times ppl asked to have something installed, and its done. Hey.nu Is a great community with webhosting, no ads, hotlinking alowed...all that crud.

php/mysql/ssi/cgi/php-gd/safe mode ... not too bad a deal for free. I currently have 120 meg on there myself.

Nifty trick, if the server doesn't allow you to upload .zip or .exe files then just rename it to .zip1 or .exe1 and ask the end user to change the extension after downloading it. I did it all the time when F2S was free.

Morph--

How the hell do you register with Hey.nu?

When you go to register, it says your merely getting access to the boards.

What's the trick?

We can't stop here! This is bat country!

Hehehe..you have to post your site up for REVIEW...the boards is simply a way to communicate, the site is a community, so you must participate and show your site to get accepted.

Thats prolly the only downer lol..

If you don't mind using their (local call rate) ISP while uploading. 800MB of fast space, completely unchecked and free
