If you're moving away from Blender, you'll probably need a combination of programs, I usually recommend to those with a very low budget:
Wings3D: Free.Model with this - only model, it's a powerful little modeller that you can export and use between programs (for throwing around other 3D programs I normally used the .obj file format, most, if not all 3d programs can handle it)
Lithunwrap: Free. Do your UVMapping here
The GIMP or Paint.NET: Free image editing programs, can be handy for texturing
Milkshape3D: Approx. $25, good for animation, easy to use, exports brilliantly to a huge range of game engines, including DBP. Also, if anything has gone wrong between movin you model about, say if it lays flat or the textures haven't loaded, you can rotate your model and re-apply textures before exporting.
If you want cutscenes, then pick up
anim8or, which is free.
