I have created a rather good rip-off of http://www.blockaction.net/?lang=en and am looking for people to playtest it.

First of all, 2 main reasons why i made this ripoff:
1. as a programmer i have the freedom to critique games to my favor
2. they changed sites and the new one's servers are down all the time.

Second, it is not meant to be completely the same and is, by no means, finished. I have yet to add moving blocks, ladders, and anything else I can dream up. Realistic suggestions would be appriciated, Although im still working on bugs and balancing the physics. For example: you can scale a wall by wall kicking repeatedly

Third, the controls are simple and have been modified a lot to fit my version of the game. Seeing as Block Action did NOT have 4-way gravity.

Left, Right, Up, And Down, are basically the ONLY controls.

if the gravity is down,
up makes you jump,
down makes you crouch,
left is walk left,
and right is walk right...

the rest explains itself and you'll figure it out. Plus I dont want to ramble.

try testing out each of the blocks before you get down to actually making levels. For additional advice on how to make levels and how to play i recomend checking out the Block Actions new location: http://www.blockquest.net/ but I must warn you, their servers are always down during the day.

as for unpacking, you can just decompress and run the executable.
I hope you can figure it out.

Please post errors and suggestions and have fun.
Post for help as well.

Awesome. Here's one of my 'levels' all you have to do, is go under Save, then overwrite one of your existing files, with this,

Then go to the program, select load, and enter the file that you put this names title under. For example, if it's labeled "lvl 1" then when you get to load, type in, "lvl 1", and press enter.

I only found one error, which could be considered a glitch. If you enter something into the save or load area, then press [delete or backspace] it puts a black box where you deleted it.

Fabulous program. I love how you can jump off walls.

[EDIT]

[EDIT]

This new one comes with a story...

You have been trapped in the prison for years. You could hear voices from above; voices that mocked you. You were in a prison. A confusing tunnel lay near you. They said there was a way out. Others had tried to escape. They were never seen again. You gazed into the darkness that lay in your large chamber. "You must get out, and enter the blue teleport." That was what the men had told you. You stared into the darkness again. It's time to get out you thought, and standing up, you entered the darkness.

Thanks for your feedback, and nice levels Irojo.

Also, thanks for bringing up the black box problem, I hadn't noticed. I'm going to streamline the saving and loading features now, I should be done soon and I'll post back when the new ones available.

Also, if you have any ideas for blocks, I can make them pretty fast depending on how complicated they are.

OOoooo Fabulous.. I'll definetly post some ideas.

Quote: "and nice levels Irojo."

Thanks!

Hold on while I open up the program and see what will add some... fun.. for a new block.

{EDIT}

A clear the screen button would be nice. Right now, I just do
load>clear>[enter]

I created an emoty program titled "clear" so it does the trick, but A clear the screen button would be nice. Still working on a new block...

[edit2]

Okay! I remembered one that I wanted before. A teleport block. Teleports you to a different block that it's paired with.

[EDIT3]

What if you made curved ice blocks? So you could go in loops! It would be fairly complicated though.

[EDIT 4] (NOT ANOTHER!!!!)

My internet is not fast enough to double post.

Not to criticise my best fan, Irojo, but what is the point or special purpose of adding curved ice blocks?

I don't really know... I thought it'd be nice at the moment to be able to do loops... and maybe make you fly farther...lol forget that...

How about one-way jump blocks! You can go through it, but not back. For example the > is where you can go. But the 'x' is where you can't.

Thanks for the ideas, I'll add teleport and one way blocks to my To do list.

Also, you'll be glad to know i have finished the new save and load interface, im still adding "delete files from in game",
"clear screen button" and "Rename from in game". I'm also looking into being able to copy/paste level code into the game and load the level.

There's your update, thanks for the ideas.

Beat your level Maindric, without editting.

Also, I'm proud to announce versioin 2 of the game, this features:

A whole new windows style load save menu featuring
right-click rename and delete options so you never have to dig
for the save folder!
A load from clipboard feature, allows you to load
from the clipboard, so just Copy the level code from the forum,
and click that button!
A small modification to the physics, see if you
notice, you probably won't
And finally, that nice little clear button.

Enjoy!

Redownload at top.

Another quick update, sorry for those of you tired of downloading this again and again. You can get it at the top.

It includes
More controls, K kills you so that you can get out
of tight spots and control makes you run, running will get you
over small holes.
The ceiling is now solid, instead of killing you.
A loop counter has been added to tell your time at
the end of the level, its the scoring system. When you finish
the level it will reappear under the "You Win" text.

also, I have given myself time to play with my own game and here's what i came up with. If you get the loop counter you can compare yourself to my top score of 3267. , (If you can beat it. )

I named it redo

Also, I am trying to add Comments and Highscores to the levels.
It may not work though...

Redo is... IMPOSSIBLE!!!! Good job with it. I updated my game.

Nice updates.

It doesn't really matter, but when I highlight over 'quit' in the middle of a game, my loop counter also get's highlighted.

To be honest I'm really only working so much on this project because I haven't been doing much lately.

I took a break for about a week, but I will continue to work with highscores.

Unfortunatly I have also started a new project. :/

I'm sorry I haven't responded in a while...
To be honest I've been really busy, Since I'm going into freshmen year of highschool, doesn't sound like much probably but I'm doing other things, also I've left a LOT of other projects unfinsihed, Unfortunately I think this ones going to join them. I'll revisit it some day though. Sorry.

I'll keep readin this forum for responses though. Maybe I'll pick up more insiration and add more to the game. But, for now, I'm closing this project...

I have taken up this project again but I do not know how fast I can work on it, being that it is the middle of a school year.

If nothing else I will have moving blocks by the holiday break.

Hey i love this so much! this is alot of fun! a suggestion though how about ladders? and moving mines? i'v been playing the real one haha.

one more question about the future. do you see this later becoming something where you can compile so that you can run it without the editor???

Fun game, even though a bit frustration sometimes, depending on the map. But apart from that.. a small kind of 'campaign' with simple text-messages or so in a 'compiled' version as Caleb1994 mentioned would be really cool. (And maybe in addition to the editor a Copy to clipboard-Button so you don't have to save the level to post it here?)

I will work on the clipboard suggestion and i will also do the campaign. If i am to do moving blocks, however, I will need to rework the engine, as I discovered when I failed to meet my holiday goal. I am currently working under a new title and will have Block Runner 1.0 Available as soon as I can. Thanks for the support.

Great game. A few physics troubles here and there, but nothing that's not already been mentioned. (Edit: Actually, there is an issue where you try to do a running jump off a single block, but most of the time will just slip off the edge first.)

I've gone and made a level, but didn't know about the wallkick until I'd done... But otherwise I've tested and tweaked it plenty. Picture. Looks hard, actually fairly simple. Few places you'll want to take it slow or use some precise jumps. (Edit: There was a way to skip part of the level, fixed.)

I call it the Gauntlet.

EDIT: New Level - "Deja Rue". Horrible, but beatable. Picture.

Well, I think its time for an update on my progress, I am currently working on "Block Runner" and have added a menu bar. The editor comes with a helpful new ability to toggle a grid, also, i have removed fans for the reason that the design was buggy, I am adding laters, slopes, moving blocks and maybe some others, best not to bite off more than I can chew. Finals just ended so I'm looking at the next few weeks being very easy. cheers!

Great Levels, you actually challenged me! looking forward to more, maybe...

Great news! Graphics-wise, Block Runner is done!, animations and moving blocks are working, and there is a nice new menu with color scheme. I am currently working on the editor and have added, as requested, the save to clipboard option. And it is now media-free! It is looking very professional, I can't wait to finish and share.
