i was wondering can i retexture the stock texture of charcters in games and if so what file should i use to retexture them

eg. jpg tga etc

YES! YOU CAN RETEXTURE STOCK! You need Gimp or Paint.net or even photoshop open up a texture with the ending D2 as this is the Diffuse layer. Now that its open its time for your pleasures to retexture.

Yeah just locate that texture file for the characters then open it up with a program such as photoshop or GIMP and then edit it from there, such as adding colour and stuff.

tga is best since fpsc generates a .dds for you which is far more compressed.
