In a few months when I can programme I want to start up a small team of game makers. The games I make I would like to sell. Instead of paying the team in cash I want to pay them in software, like 3d Modellers, and different game makers, that would just be easier for me. Do you think this is a good idea?

Wait wait wait - in a few months when you can program? Are you stating that you can't even program yet, but in a few months you think you'll be ready to have a team - TO MAKE GAMES?! Unrealistic dude. Not gonna happen. First, just LEARN TO PROGRAM.

Well, I have a big book on DarkBASIC (the help guide patch; I printed it out) and I'm going on a camping trip soon, really long bus ride, so I'll have about 4-5 hours to read it on the way there, and 4-5 hours on the way back, and we're gonna be on the trip for 5 days, so I'll have about 5 hours during the trip. Thats only one week, so I'll read basically the whole book in that time, and I'm a fast learner.

woah HZence simmer down

atleast the man has a plan and a will to learn. don't gotta rip him a new one(although not sure if M&M's have "one" in the first place).

And getting paid in software, i would enjoy that.

Being a fast learner is one thing. It's one thing to have every command memorized and know exactly what it does, but it's different to actually know how to utilize them and utilize them efficiently.

Okay okay, say I'm a total jackass and you're right, and in a few months you can program and in five hours you do know DarkBASIC by heart - just what kind of game are you planning on making?

Thankyou yusuke200013 for your support.

And HZence I am planning to make all kinds of games. I do have a few major plans, but they're the later games. At first I just want to make a few small, but 3d puzzle games.

Hey now, don't look at me like I'm trying to put you down. When I first learned to program my head was chalk full of big ideas that I definitely couldn't have handled - I just neither knew it nor did I want to admit to it. I'm just trying to give you a warning - don't go in thinking that within even a year you'll be making the next Final Fantasy. And if you somehow pull that off, well then shoot me in the face with a shotgun.

Frankly, like I said, I just don't want you to be as disappointed as I was.

How about if some of us start the games off for you?

I learned Perl in 2 days.

Of course not every single function but enough to do whatever I want in it.

DarkSith, that won't be necessary. Thanks for the offer, but I want to learn the code by myself.

Learn the code? Only one step away from a Z on the end...

Heh, just joking. If you know other languages well then won't be a problem. But to fully understand how programming should hang together (from no programming experience) is a tall order for a small amount of time. Trust me on this, I teach people how to program for a living, and even the college computer science (lots of languages) educated ones (which is just about all of them) can sometimes get stuck on sheer logic (our language is easy, as are most).

Cheers

I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing

I tried to tell him that...but ya know...I guess he'll have to figure it out for himself.

SW Games - www.freewebs.com/swgames

Yeah, I know, I only have one game. Yeah, I know it sucks. But I made it! Me!
