Is it possible to bump map a matrix? I've looked at the commands and there is a command to bump map an object, but it appears that a matrix doesn't get an id number like other objects do. I also checked in the matrix commands to see if there was a matrix-specific one but there don't seem to be any of the surface property commands like those for other objects.

Thanks for any help you guys can give me. It's my first post to these forums so I apologize if this is in the wrong spot or already covered somewhere.

I think it is possible. I don't know how exactly, but I'm pretty sure it also depends on whether or not your video card can handle it.

through DB alone, no I don't think it is possable. you probably could via Dynamic Link Libraries, but I wouldn't know how. My best guess would be to create an object in your 3D modeler that would represent your terrain. As it is an object, you would be able to bumpmap it. As you also know, this would create some limitations (like that of not being able to scroll the object vertecese), but it is possable to do ground collision checks and do it fast. Many people have done such things and can help provide code for you. I could myself however, I don't have the code with me at the moment.

Current Projects: Game Spawn 85%, mini BSP maker 50%, Height Mapper with many features 75%, Space Tactical (Like BC300AD) 15%.

Perhaps I'll just write new matrix functions using the triangle object, after checking to see if I can bump map one of those of course

Search for Kevil's memblock matrix code - they are DBO objects so bump mapping can be applied to them. Plus they are much faster than standard matrices.

Using lots of triangle objects will be very slow.
