FPS Creator X10 / Game running extremely Slow

I was just wondering why it might
be running so slow even just walking
is very laggy
I have all effects turrned off
no light mapping

System: Desktop
Intel core 2 quad 2.66gh'z
3 gb ram
Nvidea Geforce 8600gt graphics

is it my graphics card?

Make sure you build your map up slowly.... start with just segments then test it... then add lighting and test it.... then add entities to one room and test it.... then the next room etc etc....

Make sure you test your levels often for performance

Well first try what Squalker said if that don't work try to update your Drivers of your video card , cpu , etc ...

I have also had problems of a large level starting to come to a crawl. It worked great, then after adding a few items it started running at 5 to 10 fps. I removed the items but it remained the same, so I started to take more and more out of the level. Sometimes it ran ok at other times it lagged badly.

The strange thing was that if I looked to the ceiling, the framerate rose from 5 fps to 120.

I eventually found there were various places in the level that dropped the fps down. In one area It was ok, then the game would freeze. I took out 'one single segment' that had nothing in it, just a simple square where it seemed to lag most and my framerate jumped from 5fps and freezing, to over 200fps. I went round my level looking for these spots and found a few. One main area of low fps came from placing any doors (locked or false) without a room behind them, they caused lots of framerate drop. Putting a single square segment behind them, pushed the framerate much higher.

My level finished up being larger and with more items. I also found I did not need to have most items static, I could have everything in my game dynamic and still run at over 200 fps.

I build my levels just as Squalker says, but the engine can suddenly do silly things that effect the level even after it had been running ok, you just need to look for the slow down area and when you find it, just alter or even rebuild it. As I say, one empty segment dropped my fps to 5 at times, and wouldn't even compile, removing it, took my fps to over 200fps and no problems compiling.

Another point about these drop fps areas, they can affect the level even when you are in other areas, for instance, if you have a door with no room behind it, your fps will drop when you look toward the area of that door, even if you are in a different part of the map.

Following everyone advice my game does work
allot smoother still thinking of getting an
8800 range card, so thanks so much they are
playable now! =D
