To all of you DLL makers out ther in DBland:

Is it possible for you to make a DLL that turns on your webcam and allows viewing?
Also be able to use 'get image' and take pictures from it and save them.
Maybe even a way to send the webcam pictures over the web to another program running.

I know their are plenty of programs that do this, but can it be done in DB?

Theoretically yes - it would work in the same way (sort of) as a scanner...
There was someone who supposedly did a plug-in for BB - unfortunately the download didn't actually include the dll...

I'm currently finding out if my digital camera/webcam has a specific SDK (which would probably be easier to use).

Good news everyone! I really am THAT good...

Man, I wish I knew more cpp so I could just whip up these DLLs as I pleased.

its pretty simple to do in windows as you can use DirectShow to achieve it (you've gotta love Microsofts Dx incorporation of everything)

however i've never touched the DirectShow controls - so giving an exact way to achieve it is beyond me right now... but hopefully that gives anyone who has the time and wants to learn a stepping stone.

raven, just about anything you can do is beyond me right now...

lol..

and i'm not saying that to suck up, but learning c and c++ is so tedious. i tried to learn c++ before but it gets so complicated so fast....

maybe after i finish my next project i'll start trying to learn it independently. i'm taking a full year class on it this coming school year

HZence look at C as if it were basic... everything is still structured similar after all

value as float
in C becomes
float value;

for i=0 to 10
value=i*i
next i

in C becomes
for( (int)i=0 ; i>=10 ; i++ )
{
value=i*i;
}

ya know stuff like that... once you have down the simple things translated directly between DBP and C, it makes you wonder why you thought it was so hard in the first place.
structures for example

type MyType
x,y,z as float
colour as dword
u,v as float
endtype

in C becomes

struct MyType
{
float x,y,z;
DWORD colour;
float u,v;
};

i mean so much you do translates almost exactly between the two
you just have to remember the ';' after every line of instructions
and that you have to declare everything you use.

once that is done really its a peice of proverbial pie.

Yeah. It's just syntax that makes it seem C is harder. In fact, its easier in some respects because ... ahem .. <looks around sheepishly> ... you know the commands actually work.

That simple stuff though. That's basic programming, algorithms etc etc. All just as easy in C. But when it comes to graphics etc DB stands out, because it just makes the whole 3D thing a lot easier, as you dont have to mess around with anything even half complex to put 3D on the screen.

Btw, I forgot to add, if Randi is trying to make a program utilising a web cam, you know its going to feature her getting naked in front of it. She's so predictable.

I know... I can deal with Direct3D and DirectInput, but everything else seems ridiculously complicated (mainly because of the stupid COM system - its never been needed, and I do hope its dumped soon).

As for the other remark - probably have the Women's Lib. camping outside the house soon...

lol... anyone notice how Randi & Fallout are fighting like an old married couple recently

that aside, i doubt they'll drop the COMs as .Net is full of the bloody things - but they're simpler to manage with the .Net setup ...
guess it makes making applications simpler, i suppose, perhaps, to like ya know people who might like using them, like maybe.

anyways shouldn't be too difficult for a VB developer to make a DLL with it - i mean they have to piss about with interfaces like that normally, perhaps they can do some useful programming for once

I just piss her off cos she pulls her best methods of teasing out of the bag, and I point at her and laugh. I'm untouchable over the internet, in more ways than one!

In real life however ........ But I'm safe with thousands of miles of ocean between us.

Fallout loves me is what it is!!!
He sends me the heart smiley, on yahoo, all the time.

If he was here in person, he would be pulling my pigtails.
Just like a kid.

About the webcam...
Their is a program called webcam2000, I think.
It starts your webcam and makes your computer a server and you put your IP in the HTML, of an image tag.
This is a great program and lets you have a webcam on your website.
I wonder how that works?
Doesn't this program use some DLL for the webcam?
Anyone know?

No, apparently it only has 3 files - "WebCam2000.exe", "overlay.bmp" and "capoff.bmp", none of which can be interfaced with unfortunately...

I think the only way to go would be DX8/9 DirectShow, which looks very nasty - whilst I would like to see Randi...naked...it will have to be left to someone else...

personally would prefer to see another DBgirlie nakie
i've tried to look over the APi again, but DirectShow is just too much for my primative lil brain hehee

that aside i can get a Streaming Video into DBP, only i can't seem to access my webcam with it ... probably missed something stupid, but atleast i figured out howto use it to watch DvDs (i know dbp already have DvD controls and its a bit of a waste of time still was fun to achieve it myself lol)

I was naked earlier, but I'm not naked now. Chances are I'll be naked later on tonight, and on sunday night when I go to this house party, I intend to be naked with someone else. Does that answer all the naked questions?

cool... (^_^) cause there was like this hot lil norwiegan chick i was talking to last nite at a club ... well anyways when i came to i found myself at her apartment. was very nice, she kinda got me some coffee to wake me up a bit more - aparently i'd fallen asleep in the corner of the room and my mates hadn't noticed.

well i was like on my second cuppa coffee and just finally comming around feeling a bit like a train had hit me (programming for 2days straight then partying isn't recommended, unless your one of those weird perky people).
well after she got me all comfy on the sofa, she disappeared for like 5mins was in some pretty transparent bed clothes ... ended up cuddling upto me and fell asleep.

was quite a nice evening, i fell asleep a lil while later looking at the stars (was a beautiful night last night), woke up to a note saying she'd gone off to work, may yaself breakfast and close the door on your way out (ya know the usually morning note).
got a phone number too on the back which was nice

pitty i ain't single... but a nice nite anyways hehee
