x-d Hey everyone, just wondering if anyone was planning on going to IGDA (International Game Developers Association) London event on Wednesday at 7pm July 23rd, @ 73-77 Euston Road, London.

Would be cool to hook up with a few of you DarkBASICERS/Game Developers out there from the UK or in the UK at the time. Maybe we could wear DB T-Shirts (they do make does don't they?) and meet up someone close-by a hour or so before the start!

It's free and drinks and hospitality (I know some of u ain't even looking twice if this was'nt inclusive !) are courtesy of Criterion the creators of Renderware.

Here's some of the other perks of the event:

Discussion Topic : Women in Gaming.
Panel and Speakers :
Margaret Robertson - staff writer, Edge
Nina Kristensen - Just Add Monsters
Violet Berlin - Producer & Presenter of Game-Pad

Demo of the Night : Rome : Total War - By Creative Assembly - E3 Best Strategy Game 2003.

All u have to do is send an email [href]London@igda.org[/href] with "YES" in the subject.

Check out http://www.igda.org/london/ for more info.

Let me know if ur going/what you think!

trust me toady these things are... i was gonna be going to this particular one - but i've conned Brent into going in my place (hehee)
so if you see like a 6ft guy w/ash blond hair and a little scar that makes his top lip look weird - your more than likely looking at my business partner & best mate

no doubt he'll be bored off his ass around the Maya stuff (as thats what i'm suppose to be doing but sod that, not like they even bother to pay me lol)
and i think that there maybe a quick preview of the Luma engine from nVidia, probably have a bad mugshot of me there (just like they did at E3 for thier "developers"
they only pick blasted chring worthy photos... i mean whats up with that?

anyways try to have fun

I would have thought it would only be for commercial developers anyway...

Poor Brent - tell him to drink plenty of black coffee if he wants to stay awake during the supposed discussion...

I wouldn't want to go - would remind me of too many boring University lectures...

When i sent them the email, i asked, although you may have to sign up for a 'Free User Account' first http://www.igda.org/join/

Hey, it's free, they'll be food & drink (edible if not tasty , hopefully) & they'll be like minded game developers & game lovers alike (hopefully, once again! ).

Don’t quote me on any of this, I’ve never been to any of these things really, apart from that ‘Video conference’ thing which was ok & a few ‘job fairs’ which, if not employment, you’ll definitely gain lots of new pens plus bags of leaflets and various junk. (Sometimes even mouse mats if ur lucky which are always handy! Unless like me, you use a laptop the majority of the time. But their always useful as last minute birthday/Christmas presents! )

But hopefully it won’t be a snooze-fest, but I can’t promise this! I figured since I haven’t gone to a game event/conference before (usually cause of distance/price etc), (God’s will) this opportunity may be worth the effort!

It may not be intentional, but u 2 are making it sound so exciting, I can hardly wait now x-d !

So have u guys attended any of these ‘game event/conference’
are they pretty much the same all the other conferences/fairs etc?

yeah they're all the same...
like a few people actually have something interestnig but you have to sit through 6hrs of lectures - or you sit in a booth with people asking you the same thing over and over and over lol

i mean its fun if your really into it, but generally its just like college ... only any fun when your doing something you shouldn't

-Raven "only any fun when your doing something you shouldn't"

Understood, know exactly what u mean there! I wasted a whole year at college doing exactly that! :-d

If I can get a mate to come, I might still check it out (just for the T-Shirt, the experience, the knowledge ...)

-Solidz Snake
Your'll have to do like Solid Snake, stealth ur way out early!

Thanks for the feedback Raven!
Thanks for the thoughts guys!

Any1 else planning to brave it :-o ?

Hmm, might be worth going simply to meet Violet Berlin, she's cool She used to present Bad Influence, which I loved as a young kid and she also wrote regular panels in Digitiser so is therefore a God(dess) - Also, to even further affirm her greatness, she was a selectable character in Micro Machines II on Megadrive! lol

Oki - so wtf is 'GamePad'? A new TV games show I haven't seen? Is it as crud as Cybernet? lol

Bunnies aren't just cute like everybody supposes, They got them hoppy legs & twitchy little noses,
And what's with all the carrots? What do they need such good eyesight for anyway?

Man that Violet chick pisses me off. Dunno what it is, but game reviews don't sound credible coming from a girly. She's always a bit too chirpy.

It would cost me about £300 to go down to London on the train... about £50 or something to fly though

Bender:Blackmail’s such an ugly word. I prefer extortion. The x makes it sound cool.

Any1 watched 'Ultimate Gamer' before (SciFi Channel Bskyb 130 for any1 interested, thinks it's on saturday 5.30pm or 6pm), that's presented by a ladie too (Emily Newton-Dunn).

After all, this is the age of girl power/independent women you know !

It's pretty up-to-date! Cybernet seems to be a couple of weeks out to me, and it's on at a time some people would'nt even know existed (around 3/4am! )

She's been professionally reviewing games for some pretty big names since 1991, thats 12 years of experience, so I can take her reviews seriously. Especially as I usually agree with them Anyways, don't worry that she's a girl, it not that weird- heck - she even looks a bit like a man lmao

i used to watch Cybernet... like 10years ago when it was on ONE (cable channel 1 for the london area), then they changed to that Jason Presly guy and started making it more about movies and crap ... the whole format changed and just made me wanna hurl.

personally i like SFG (now UGi) its on right before Thursday Manga on Sci-Fi (11:30pm, manga from 12-3am) ... i've got nice hookup hack my brothers setup for me, i dunno what it all does but i can watch UK-TV only a matter of 30mins behind through my T1 line - he fiddled with my TiVo box to do it (which is probably the reason for the delay)

i really like Emily Newton-Dunn, i got to meet her when she was doing that appauling "Bits" on C4 but she didn't know (or care) who i was at the time lol (but to be honest i didn't really know who she was either)
i'm not sure how you can say she looks like a guy though, i mean she has a pretty big chest which is hard to miss mate

Brent ended up meeting the American one which was on Bits, she now does some just as bad US version - he said that she was like a total stuckup B-atch

personally don't think you can beat the reviews in PCGUK though, and its never out of date on new titles - even living in the states i still read about alot of titles that i didn't even know existed in that before any industry news filters down and such. Those boys (and girl) have gotta be working pretty hard over in Bristol to get the 411 so quick on everything.
