When I was making my ww2 weapon pack I made this. Mainly for a texture practive as it seemed quite easy to make. But I forgot to show it. But I'm showing you it now. Please give me c&c I want to improve on my texturing.

Texture seems a little faded, is that the look you're going for? For example the text is very hard to read, on a grenade you'd think any text presented on it would be very clear for safety reasons. Also that looks a little like oak for the handle, I don't honestly know what German grenade handles are made from but that seems a little off. Of course I could be wrong.

Ok so its make the top a little clearer. And the wood changes. According to this, you can see variations between the wood.

Edit: Sorted out the Text.

Is it made for 1st or 3rd person?

...bump up the contrast, to make sure the texture translates well into FPSC.

Yes I do use Paint.net. And I've sorted out the wood. It isn't like Photoshop though. It took me along time to make the metal.

@Seth Black: I bumped up the contrast I made it darker. But if you save the texture as a .dds the blackness won't effect the transparency.

I think the top actually looks a little worse now. I would make it more of a solid color like the ones in the picture, not such an extreme between dark and light. And don't use outlines or dropshadow to make the text stand out, make it a contrasting color or lightness. The second grenade from the top and the bottom one in your picture both have white on dark green, which is good contrast. I think the stick has a better texture now, but too much contrast on the grain . I'd lower the contrast of the texture just a tad, but keep the saturation.

Whenever I lower the contrast it looks faded. Even by a little bit. So I don't want to risk it.

...greatly improved texture, to be sure.

I'd try to burn in that big hot spot, and bring in some of the color/texture. Reducing it down to a smaller catchlight would make it look more realistic...

Hey deathead, I don't want to spam your thread, but I decided to make a stiel hand grenade and this is what I came up with. Not too much difference from yours, but I just thought I would show it to you.

@Darimc: Its fine. Looks ok, but the wood could need improving. And bottom looks too plain and one colour.
@Seth: Could you point out the hot spot. I'm not very good at finding things like that.

Thanks, I think it's the render that might be messing up the wood, it is a photo, so it looks fine up close. One suggestion for yours, I think the wood grain should be pointing vertically, that's how it is in all of the reference pictures.

...pretty much was referring to the lightened back in the center portion of the grenade head.

It doesn't look bad, per se. It just looks a bit washed out, in that area, due to the contrast bump...

I bumped up the contrast a little. To make it a bit more faded. But I'm still trying to get it into FPSC. But considering as Darimc done it first I'm may not release it. Because...
A.IT was mean't to be a gunn3r exclusive, so now people can easily get his.
B.It will lead to the idea of actually getting more people to gunn3r a complete stump.

Your textures dont look right,
the top of the grenade is no where near metal, and it looks like you just dodged and burned some hotspots into the texture to make it look cloudy to give it that metal effect, which it doesn't look good at all.

Try texturing it with the reference you used. The second from the top is what you should be aiming for. Also your wood is a little to orange and to me it doesn't look like woodgrain. needs more work.

sorry if that was a bit harsh,

Nice! I like it. Simple, yet effective model for a nade.

Crav3: I'm not going to use your crit, mainly as you major bumped it. And I'm no longer making the model. So I'd take into account your critism, but I won't use it.
