Hi there,

I'm about to move onto my next game (having completed 6 this year so far, the current one in the final stages of sponsorship). The next game is a 2D shooter, and for it I need someone who is competent enough with liquids in their 3D app of choice to create some super slimy animations for me.

I need really wet slippery green gross looking slime trails (viewed from directly above) that slip and slide down the screen towards the bottom (getting a bit more bulbous as they go). Plus I'd need a variety of drips, splashes and a nice gooey explosion for when you hit it.

I'm hoping this can be achieved by a nice plugin or something rather than doing it all by hand

As this is for a 2D game the animations would need to be rendered out (alpha channel intact) and look good shrunk down quite small.

Is this something you would like to get involved in? I don't expect it for free and am willing to pay for your time, so let me know your rates.

Drop me a line: [email protected] if you are interested, or post here if you've got questions

Cheers,

Rich

Hey Rich, sounds like a cool project! Sadly, 3ds Max still doesn't have any built it fluids simulation. There's a fluids plugin called RealFlow but it costs nearly as much as Max does! Otherwise I'd give it a try.

Good luck with this though.

Damn! Hopefully there are some other apps out there that could do it If not I'll shelve this project and move onto another idea I've got!

my suggestion would be to post this on [href=www.turbosquid.com]turbosquid[/href], there are a few people there with real flow as well as glue3d that would snatch this job up and pit it out in a few days

other suggestions are [href=www.engoycg.com]enjoycg[/href]
a guy there has shown some good results watch the avi

A couple of versions of Real Flow have been given away with magazines like 3D world before - the last one which only gave you a limit of a certain amount of particles and I think it let you use stuff commercially...though I'm not sure. I do have both versions released free with 3D World, but I only played with them once. But I wouldn't ask me to do anything here - I've only got a couple weeks left before I got back to uni and there's stuff I want to work on before I go back.

However don't Maya and Blender have build in fluids? We have Blender and Maya users hanging around, so maybe one of them can help.

And TrueSpace should be able to do fluids as well if you use the metaballs at a certain setting - should be all doable if you only need a 2D version of the animation, which if you can't find anybody you can download TrueSpace 7 for free and try yourself if need be - like I said, all you need is metaballs to simulate fluids.

Like Seppuku Arts said Blender has great fluid capabilities as seen here and we have many Blender users here (including me, but I'm not very good ).

90% of statistics are completely inaccurate.

Yeah, Blender has a fairly good fluid sim, in my opinion anyway. You can set different properties like viscosity etc. (I haven't used it in a while) and it also has presets of water, oil, and honey. I think the honey one could be tweaked slightly to become slime, but you'd have to ask someone with more experience in that area.

I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are in alphabetical order, like they should be.

That Blender video was awesome I'd download it and try it, but I know how badly I suck at 3D, so I'll try posting to some other forums in the meantime. Cheers guys!

I can use real flow and do a fluid simulation in that and render it out in max if you like. I have some free time so I'll start tonight and I will probably be able to post something tomorrow morning. If u like it I'll finish it up for u.

here is a small example that I had set up. it very basic and only took around 5 minutes but it will let u know what kind of liquids u can get from real flow.

wind27382 - nice work, but I was after a much more solid gooey substance than that. Think the consistency of honey / syrup.

Just to be sure, there is no poly limit because this will be made into a 2D image(s)? I believe I can do this fairly easily, so I'll give it a try ad get back to you.

Omega - that's correct. I don't want the 3D objects, I just want the final sequence of images.
