I have'nt got a clue >.< try selecting the lines that are creating the smoothing error's in edit poly mode, then maybe resmooth them lines.
I have'nt got a clue to say.

twirl a line... Hmm... let see...
if you mean line as in the draw a line, then I would use nurbs curve lines for curved lines, other then that, when using a straight line... extrude it by zero(using modifiers.) then make it a editable polygon, then select edges(for editing polygon.) then go to the edit edges tab thing (:S).
then select insert vertex, now select a part of the line and put vertexes on it
then go to vertex editing mode, select a vertex one by one and pull it out or in, each one at a diffrent time not all at once
hope you undertsand what I mean by that, rofl, i aint the best at guiding people... xD

errr yes...

better explanation of my problem, at the start when you first load 3ds max you get a welcome screen, you get tuts and you see that chalace on the pillar, she draws a line a creates a 3d shape from it but she dosent cover it in their tuts -_-

ahah lathe got it now thxs

Ok thought you mean draw a line, add some more vertex and curve them, but yes it is lathe, although lathe can be inaccurate and fussy, just try not banging you're head on the wall Lol
takes some time to use lathe correctly

You have all the different sides on different smoothing groups, in your editable poly tag in max you should scroll down and see a bunch of numbered boxes, what you want to do is select all the sides and then re put them in the same smoothing group by pressing the first box that is labeled "1".

i bet this is starting to bug people.

how do you grow the hair strighter and only on certain parts of the face?

i know how to style it but no idea how to cut 'n blow

we should have a FAQ 3ds max thread with the amount of questions ppl ask like how to see the poly count (7) -(i only found out yesterday)

yeh it did cause more problems there joined but am at the same problem lol the mesh is still there even tough i unified them -_-

damm i hate changing programs its so frustrating especially if you know how to fix the problem in the other program, but that defeats the point of becoming independent on 3ds...

edit could the diifence be caused by me using autodesk max 9

never mind ill rebuild the top part frm te extra mesh am trying to delete

thxs tatters i owe a few pints

the best way to help u with your problem will be for u to post the 3d studio max file and let us open it and fix it then will tell u what we had to do.

Or maybe stop saying "u" and start using punctation?

Anyways, yeah booleans would probably be the way to go if you wanted an automatic way of doing it, I would suggest doing it manually since that always (If you have enough skill I guess) give a less messy and better mesh.

Never used shaders in max, but it looks like you want to use sphere mapping on that object.

Could be a lighting issue. Try placing a skylight and then Render>advanced Lighting>Light Tracer

Well once you have it unrwapped how you want all you need to do is go to tools > render UVW Template. The pick the size you want it (default is 1024) then click n render and click the little save button in the render window to save it out as whatever file type you want.

RIP Max-Tuesday, November 2 2007
You will be dearly missed.

First apply a UVW unwrap modifier

Click on edit

click on mapping> Flattern mapping

Click on render to texture

I give up with this banner thing as it never seems to work for me. I will now stop wasting mu time.
