Hi,
As you may know or may not know, my modelling skills are close to zero. So, I rely on other people to help out when they can (in return, I provide a wealth of free media on my website) and when nobody can help I try to buy the models I need. That isn't always possible when I need something specific, like in this case.

I have a game that is almost complete. I haven't created a WIP for it because I like my WIP's to look good and without good models, this game looks pretty poor.

The game is a puzzler using beams of coloured light. I have retextured one of Spotaru's Sci-Fi containers to be a light source:

I am also using a bevelled cube provided by David Gervais to change the colour of light beams:

Although it just has a crappy texture on it the moment, I intend to replace that with a coloured glass shader.

What I need is two 'light beam splitter' models. At the moment I use a sphere with cones around it:

The first one accepts a beam of light and splits it in two directions, or it takes two beams of light and mixes the colour.

The second one takes a beam of white light and splits it into three coloured beams.

I would really like to replace these sphere/cone models with something that looks more like the light source model I am using. I have no problem texturing the model myself but I can't UV map.

The only criteria is that the models will need to be 64x64x64 DBP units in size. Other than that I will leave the artistic design up to you.

If anyone feels generous enough to take up the challenge I would very much appreciate it.

Thank you

I'll do it, I just have a few question:
what format do you want the models in?
What format should the textures/maps be?
Do you have a target polygon count?
would you like a new light source model as well? You did say you had just re-textured a scifi container.

If the good lord had intended us to go outside or have a social life, he wouldn't have invented the internet.

Thanks Omega

what format do you want the models in? - .x or .dbo please
What format should the textures/maps be? any format will do
Do you have a target polygon count? The game is fairly static so you can go crazy with the poly's if you like but it might be a bit wasted because the models are fairly small on screen (they fit in a 10x10 grid)
would you like a new light source model as well? You did say you had just re-textured a scifi container. If you feel it would be easier to keep the theme similar then that would be great. Otherwise, I actually think the Sci-Fi container looks good as a light source

I am certainly open to other offers too ... the more the merrier. I could provide different themes on each level

Thanks

Gotcha, Working on it now.

EDIT: I've attached a render of the first try at the light-bender-thing. It'll look much better with the texture.

I appreciate you time and help Omega but that wouldn't work

All three orifices would need to be the same size, the blue cones would need to go because the ends serve as inputs as well as exits when mixing colours (see below) and also the orifices need to be much bigger relative to the overall size of the object in order to accommodate the light beam but still fit in a 64x64 grid.

I hate being critical when you have offered your help but it just wouldn't work like that ... sorry

I will make you one. But if Omega is already doing it I may not do it.
Edit: Attached a quick render. Sorry for the angle.

Hmm.. I do have somethings that looks like that scifi container.
With some modification it can be a good splitter. If you still need it I can post it for you.

ah, okay. I misunderstood what you wanted. I though there was one input and two outputs. That's why I made the model that way. I'll re-do it now.

EDIT: here's another render after some modifications. Is this any better?
Tell me what needs to be changed.

@Omega
Once again, thank you for your time and help. Unfortunately, once again I would have to say it is not what I need ... sorry
As you can see from the images above and (perhaps more clearly) the image below, the light beams almost meet, so, the entry and exits points of the splitter must be a lot closer together.

My initial place-holder idea is closer to what I am looking for. Would you be able to produce something like that but with the rings (like in your render)? That would be great for the splitter/mixer. As for the second model that splits white light into three colours. The same basic idea but with an additional cone. The UV map on the second one would also need to be a little different because I would need to be able to texture each cone separately.

Thanks

@Deathead
Having more than one option is always a bonus. If you are still willing to help that would be great. I could use different models in different levels

@Strelok
If you wouldn't mind uploading them, I can take a look and see what I can do with the texture. You could either upload them here or forward them to my email address (below).

Thanks

IS this more like it?

I'll keep tweaking it until I get it right. So tell me what needs to change.

Thanks, that is much closer!
If you could adjust it so that the outer rings (entry and exits) are almost touching, I think it will be spot on

[Edit] I now have a WIP

Gotcha. I'll have that ready later today, if I can get some time during my classes to work on it.

Thanks Deathead, that is mighty fine!

However, as you can see from the in-game shot, the ends are just a little too narrow. Would you be able to increase their size whilst keeping the overall dimensions the same? And perhaps a few more polys, it is a bit squareish at the moment. If you could do that for me I would certainly be able to use it. Thanks a lot!

Hey, sorry I haven't uploaded it yet, I suddenly got overloaded with school work. I'll have this for you as soon as I can, if you still want it.
