Ok.. first post here so I apologize if it's not to standards or if posted in the wrong spot. I spent a while lurking around to see if my questions were answered and I was still left unanswered so here goes my first post:

I JUST started working in FPSC (i have a degree in computer animation but i graduated 10 years ago and havent done much with it since) and I am attempting to create some "grins and giggles" levels to get my skills up to snuff using this program. I've encountered a few things that I can't seem to solve myself either by trial and error or by googling various things to find answers... i'm coming up short on info and i was hoping some of you more "seasoned" creators could help me out. Im saving posting time by asking everything in one glorious post. Onward to the asking (lol)

1. Half-walls or countertops? - I'm trying to recreate my work as part of a level. We have half walls in the reception area and counter tops for displays in the lobby.. i cant seem to find a segment or entity that would work for that purpose.

2. Scaling and short walls - I'm working with a 1 square = 6 feet which is ok for my intent and purpose but i was wondering if there is anyway to cut a wall shorter..

3. Steps - the floor behind the front desk is 1 step higher then the rest of the flooring... is there any way to raise a room and make a step up?

These questions are the ones i've encountered thus far. i'm sure i'll have more but i'll ask those in time.. many thanks in advance.

Darth - There is a stickied thread in the FPSC Models Forum on the "FPSC Tool List." Definitely recommend you take a look at that and then downoad Entity Workshop, Firma and Signs. Each has a slightly different pupose but those are key to making custom entities (half walls, etc.) and are simple to use and free or cheap. That should get you going on breaking out of the "stock media box." Hope that helps.

'Yeah...I'm gonna' have to ask you to come in on Saturday. That'd be great.'

I actually recommend entity workshop, or if you want a lot more for a small price buy magic fps. It comes with a door segment creator (with texture template), about 50-odd textures and much more.

Unfortunetly, FPSC does not have the sort of flexibility offered by a BSP world editor, so what you want isn't possible with just the editor. However, you can import virtually anything you want. If static, it then becomes part of the level (seems like a really odd work pipeline to me, making it easier to get started but harder to make something really complex ).

For counters make sure you check through the scifi-furniture, I think the last furniture category has a number of counters. The WW2 section does as well if you're interested in wood versions. Half walls and short walls will likely have to be made in a 3rd party program or imported yourself.

First off, a big thanks and kudos for everyone who responded, I appreciate you taking time to help a n00b out..

Firma is fantastic.. i've been spending the last few hours experimenting and switching between it and photoshop.. WOW.

entity workshop has been giving me the fits.. its crashing all over the place.. I think its along the lines of what i need but i was wondering if anyone could recommend a similar product i could buy that would be a more in-depth app? i'm willing to spend the moolah on something that would be a little more feature-laiden and inevitably more useful for my needs....

thanks for helping me on my way.. i must be off... my game is calling.. its addictive... i need an intervention!! hahha

may the force be with you!
