when I said that the graphics don't look the same what I meant was the colours were "messed up", sort of blotchy and jerked about, but that might be due to my graphics card, I don't know.

btw, i don't have a website to upload my picture so i can't give one.

But that wouldn't explain by it fails on some 32-bit modes... Unless some 32-bit modes are less than others...

I expect the colour value is different by 1 bit or something stupid.

650-800fps windowed, 1185fps exclusive. He just falls through the floor whatever I do. I'm using: AthlonXP 2000+, 512mb ram and GeForce4 Ti4800.

Its certainly an odd problem - I'm sill inclined towards a DBPro bug (I can see 16-bit modes causing a problem), but not 32-bit (as I thought all pixel values read are converted to 32-bit RGB values with(?) alpha).

read a point value off the screen somewhere you know the ground will be then use that to check from then on in? that way it doesnt matter if the color value changes as you'll read the correct one from your reference ground point and then use that from there on in.

Hi everyone, thanks so much for testing it

FINALLY I'VE FIXED IT!

I know its fixed because I went round a few friends houses and tested, and it didn't work on 2 of their systems, I tried my new theory and it now works perfectly on all the systems, and all screen modes and windows desktop resolutions

As suspected it was indeed a problem with the colour depth and resolutions of the desktop, which is kinda strange as I was forcing the exclusive resolution and depth, but oh well its fixed now

There's not much point me uploading the new working version as its hardly fun to play, and I know it works now

However, seeing that there has been so much interest, once I improve my system to include proper speed changes, jumping power ups etc I'll make a Sonic game specially for you guys Shouldn't take too long

I have emailled Lee about the discrepancies in the Point() command results, I'm not sure if he is aware of them.

Oh and Andrew11, I tried and did it last night, took me a good 3 hours though it is possible, just keep trying mate Its not much faster tho, if you aren't economical with your code its actually slower!

Duron800 / 512Mb DDR / GeForce2mx 200 / WinXP - Fullscreen[270fps] Windowed[80fps]
desktop 1280x1024x32bpp

Athlon64 / 1.5Gb DDR2 / GeForceFX 5900ti / Win .Net - Fullscreen[1,500fps] Windowed[1,500fps] (even with FSAA 8x)
desktop 1280x1024x128bpp

i've gotta learn why my fps caps off at 1,500 is begining to annoy me. ho well
got my bro's machine here cause he sent it ahead of arriving so i'll test on that in a little bit - which has a pretty lowend setup so should be a good test.

no problems with it, could try and the radeon when Alexis gets home, she's put a password on her system

I get 450 in fsex and 90 in windowed but I have a 1600x1200 desktop.
he falls in both modes. My screen is blurred in both mode like you have mipmapping on, this could be the problem.
I tried to post a image of it but my web server is down. I'll try again later.

Yeah, I spent about an hour on it, then my mom made me go to bed, and I never really felt like working on it again... Maybe I'll go back someday...
The problem I had was it read the data wrond always made sonic go to the top of the screen. For some reason, It thought that the top of the image was colored ground color.

Did you use a real-time memblock method, or read the data and use later?

Thanks all - as said before the problem with him falling through is fixed now, and I know why it happenned - there's hardly a point uploading a new demo the fps would be the same

Raven - lol 1500 is just fine, even if it does cap - I imagine you can't tell the differentce when its that high anyways

Andrew - real time - its just a case of knowing which exact pixels to check when to keep the speed up

Close to Perfect - It depends which code But yes I'm adapting some of this code to use for a possible 20 line challenge

I was just curious as to how you did it and how you fixed it. That's all. If you don't want to share it thats fine, if you release a 20 line challange, that will be fine too.

Thanks, CTP.

Fell through for me too. P4 1700, 128MB radeon 9000 pro, 256mb RAM.
Full screen mode I was getting about 1800 fps.
