I'm not looking to do anything too fancy just yet, but I would like to colour the different faces of the model to get some simple colour/shading onto it.

Is there an easy(ish) way of doing this, or do I need to learn about UV mapping?

I've got 3D Canvas Pro, but could download other free modelers if they're better suited to the task.

The final aim is to have a .x model with different coloured faces that I can use in DBP.

Usually if you just want to color a specific face you apply a material to it, in your app. (Select it, find material settings) I haven't used 3D canvas but I figure it should have something like that.

I have tried colouring the faces, but when I load the object in DBP it just shows up white. Do I need to issue a texture object command of some description?

In order to have the colors show up in DBP you would have to texture, to my understanding, unless you want the entire object the same color.

I figured out some of it, and I now have a material textured .x file in my game.

A little laborious to select and colour the faces, but until I get head around UV mapping, it'll do.

Thanks.
