Can you show a wire shot? It'll help me critique.

here is a wireframe screenie , you`ll see that the detail on the blade is missing because i bumpmapped it with a texture in dbpro.

You have way too many divisions on the hilt of the knife, and on the blade itself there is a giant N-Gon, connect edges to make it work.

sorry for being a 3d newbie whats a n-gon is it the large surface area on the blade ?

anyways i`m gonna redo it and try and get less divisions and mabey add the blade detail to the mesh rather than bump mapping.

thanks for the feedback , i`ve also started a revolver but thats gonna take me a while .

An N-gon is basically a face with more than 4 edges. You should try to stick with quads (4-sided faces), but triangles are okay if need be.

90% of statistics are completely inaccurate.

Tris are alright if it's something you are not going to animate. Besides I don't get why people hate tris so much. I mean you spend so much time trying to get quads and then when you import it into an engine it converts it to all tris anyways! Besides, a quad is two tris

Well if it really isn't anything that will deform, as a gun, triangles aren't a issue, the main reason why people seem to hate them is that they generally don't deform well, except in places like the shoulder and the elbow and such.
And it's just good practice in general to try and stay away from triangles as much as possible as it gives you practice on managing the topology of the model. But really, triangles are fine, but don't overuse them.

It does if you take the actual image address and go to it in your web browser.

Well, my PC's broken and I'm using my PS3 to browse the forums, so I'd have to type the address, so it's a bit getting on my nerves, typing the addresses with a pad...

Ok, well from what I can tell that blade is a 53ish sided poly. Try connecting the verts with a line to make sure that there is no poly over 4 sides. Tris are fine here because it's not animated.
