ok, so i got a model as a *.3DS file, and i try loading it but it won't load in,and its a supported format supposedly... well, i dunno if it loads in, it crashes the program before i can tell... does the *.3DS file have to be textured for it to be correctly imported?, cause mine aren't...

im new to DGDK, but its pretty cool

yes i am, i wish i could put my models in, any chance .obj format will get support? .obj is the industry standard for models, for lots of places that is, so why not here?

Yea, I recommend using .X files. Direct X likes these allot and usually they will load them quicker and will come out more how you would expect than a 3DS file.

Just download and install the Panda exporter plugin http://www.andytather.co.uk/Panda/directxmax_downloads.aspx

Then you can export as .X and it will work good with the GDK

Good luck

I just started messing around with DarkGDK and I wanted to load a simple square arena model I made in 3DS. I exported it in 3DS format which the DarkGDK website says is supported. I then loaded up the Game Level tutorial project and I replaced the file name in the dbLoadObject with my file name.

Well the code appears to compile correctly, however when I press F5 to start it I get this error:
"Unhanded exception at 0x0042906e in Game Level.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x00000010."
When I do a normal build and run the .exe file I get just a blank screen. I would assume that if the model was not loading correctly I would still be able to see the skybox that the tutorial loads in.

I just dont understand the proublem. The help file says that "You must specify a model in the X, 3DS, MDL, MD2 or MD3 format. " so I dont understand why it runs just fine when it loads a .dbo file but not when it loads a .3ds file (even tho the help file does not mention .dbo format).
