Hiho,

I currently plan on making a model pack containing some first person weapons like a wrench (see attached picture), a hammer, a pitchfork and so on.

Unfortunately I'm not quite sure about the poly count they should have in the end.. There are lots of threads about this already but in none of them I found a convincing answer. As I tend to leave out detail rather than raising the poly count I'd like to have a more definitive limit..

So my question is: What poly count would you aim for? How many polygons would be suitable for FPSCreator, DarkBasic, FPSCreator X10 and other engines/programs (I would then make various versions of the model; highpoly, midpoly, lowpoly and so on)?

I hope someone is willing to enlighten me.

Thanks in advance,
Alsan

FPSC = 2000-3000

FPSC X10 = 4000-5000

As far as I know.....

It honestly depends on what you want it to look like, take CGs guideline for example..
FPSC x9 can range from 500-3000, but as I was going to say it depends on how much detail you want in the model, yesterday I made a Ak, it is only about 700 polies and the 300 is the hands I made and rigged for it, and I think its not very detailed but it looks like a ak.

Like to see a mesh screenshot off that!

Just make the model to your best ability without using un-nessacary polies. I would say about 2000 - 3000 for highpoly hands and weapon in FPSCreator x9

To be honest, i work with both this and Realmcrafter, and in this a wep and hands can be like 1-2k polys and still look good, because I have characters with weapons and everything in realmcrafter in 4k polys looking better than some of the 7k poly stuff here. so its about the artist, you use the amount of polys that you find best to use for that particular model.

Thanks for your help all. I do very much appreciate it.

I guess I'll aim for ~1000 to max. 2000 polys only for the weapon (high poly version), don't know how I'll solve the hand problem for now (I hate organic modelling, especially animating and rigging).

I'd say 2000-4000 is enough for a detailed gun if you really want to be high detail.
