I found a very cool program this morning for making textures for my models.

Its called blacksmith 3d paint and there is a freeware version (unlimited use) that will support textures up to 1024 x 1024, It exports the final
image to the normal formats .bmp, .png , .jpg, .tga and .tiff

How it works is simple, after creating your model, simply UV map
the model using whatever mapper you use. export the final UV map as bmp or one of the other exports stated above. Apply the bmp to the model and export the final model out as a .obj file. And finally just open Blacksmith3d, load in your model and paint away. and as I said you can export out your final image out to one of the formats above and upto 1024 x 1024 (freeware version)

there is a proversion that can handle textures upto 8096 x 8096
but the cost is I think 300 bucks.

You can find it at www.blacksmith3d.com A very worthwhile look

That's pretty cool! You could also use Blender which handles images over 16000 x 16000 for free. But this looks pretty cool to.
