I have used milkshape before, and i liked it. Unfourtunatley, Milkshape is very buggy and if something goes wrong it screwes up my entire pc to the point that i have to reformat it.

What i liked about Milkshape is the easy triangle by triangle creation, for low poly stuff.

Any good ones out there?

File->Import didn't work for you?

They say Blender has a steep learning curve, but it only took me a few hours to work out what I need to make basic meshes (swords, spears, basic cars, etc.)

I am not trying to sound like a doche but i am not looking for "THE BEST" modeler,

Can blender model stuff triangle by triangle like milkshape?

and yes, file-import didnt work for me, nothing showed up on the screen.

Is there a plugin for blender that lets it export/import .dbo files?

MS3D isnt to buggy? the only thing that might become buggy is when 2 "triangles" are put together and one becomes black... and it is impossible to fixXD otherwise i like MS3D becuz it is easy as... to use i cant think of any program wich is like ms3d (with the feututre to put ur own vertexes out)

There are a couple annoying bugs.

for axample in MS3d when animating, a limb that is animated all of a sudden starts growing smaller and smaller. As a result, i need to restart the program. I have noticed that the more animated the model is, the more often this bug occurs.

another thing is milkshape somehow sometimes causes half of all my programs to become win32 incompatible.

i had to reformat my PC 5 times (and different computers) before i caught on that it happens only when MS3d is installed.

Dude, we don't care what you think is the 'best' modeler. PAGAN, I would suggest trying out:

-Blender
-Wings
-TrueSpace

...and any others that are free that you can find, the choose the one that works best for you. Personally I prefer Blender, but TBH if you're looking for a small simple modeler then you might be best with something different. It really comes down to what you work best with.

Funny how people here are always so sarcastic.

For 1 I really was'nt stating what I think is actually "THE BEST" 3d modeller in that case I would have to go with MAYA.

But I do agree with you andrew "it is whatever the user themselves feel most comfortable with"

However on a side note:

Blender can put out some amazing stuff if you know how to use it,
but the program has a high learning curve to it, the exports and imports can be confusing to someone very new to it. Plus it is open source which means things can be changed around by anyone.
which can make the program in the end very messy.

Wings 3d does'nt have animation plus I don't think it even exports
to x or dbo which are the formats you need for DBPRO.

You could try deled as well it is a modeler/world editor, Would not be very useful for uv mapping characters though. This is more a world editor.

As far as being compatible with DBPRO

TRUESPACE is a recently made freeware program. With tons of VIDEO tutorials on their site that will teach you the interface. It has 2 direct x exports of coarse as well as others. And has everthing you need to model/uv map/texture/animate and so on.... but without the learning curve that you'd find with BLENDER....

You know why it's called blender right?

because that is what most peoples brains feel like they went throught trying to learn it... lol just kidding.

Not true, open source software isn't the same as wikipedia. It's not like you could download the source for blender, put random crap in it, and then see your changes in the next release.

Changes only get added if they are actually useful.
