I am making some levels for my game and it is outside (at night). Should I make the whole level in 3ds max in one and export it? Or maybe export the road, some buildings, etc. as different parts so I can make LODs to save on computing power and how would I add lights like streetlamps? Could I use 3d world studio to make lightmaps? But even then, how would I make dynamic lights (Doesn't DarkGDK support up to 8 dynamic lights?)?
Thanks.

.bsp

Download "Valve Hammer", do the tutorials etc. It's a great tool for map-making!

Bleh, BSP in the DB Engine sucks. Go with .X models.

so all in one or seperate .x files and manually add them with code? Also, why does .bsp suck? Isn't it easy and one file?

I used separate x files for each object like the road, trees and etc. Then placed them in my game using my own level editor.

It would be easy if the BSP support wasn't horribly broken, but as it stands using BSP is extremely painful. Use .x models for all of your objects, position them manually, and then just use Sparky's for collision. His library is really popular, and a lot of people on the forum would be able to help you out with it.

My site, for various stuff that I make.

Or you could use Kaos-Script to save the positions of the objects. Too bad I'm getting messed up errors with it. >

With Hammer, I have downloaded it (version 4.1 i think), but I cannot use it because I need to set it up for Half Life, but if I set it up for that game, I wouldn't be able to use it with mine?
