Ok, I've tried Game Cam 2.0, which when I do record, comes out looking weird(see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TiOS7sSYe_M)

Fraps...is only 30 seconds long

and screen recorder gold makes the game look low quality, so any suggestions?

You should waste money on FRAPS to me. When i use FRAPS, the game goes 3 FPS slower but when I play the video, I can play it as if I was playing it at 60(+) FPS. the sound is out of snyc tho. I don't any free program but just buy fraps. I don't know anything else...

Anything capturing screen activity (especially recording sound too) is going to urt your framerate... so that's not just going to be unique to Fraps.

I personally love Fraps and have tried many others and wouldn't use anything else. Just make sure you bind the record and screenshot keys to something you don't use in a game... I remember opening my Fraps folder to find like 100 videos of me playing WoW.

I still recommend CamStudio. It's free, records both video and audio, and isn't bound to any keys you would use to play the game with. Not sure on fps rate, though.

Cam studio creates lots of dead frames in recording, which makes the effect of lagginess, aswell as that all recording programes will lag, basicly, its double the lag in laymen terms. =(

I use Screen2Exe

pros:
its free
it doesn't slow down the frame rate
it saves in .exe format, anybody with windows is able to watch the video
you can record from mic

cons:
you can only save maximum 4 frames per second

easiest thing to do: (i think)
get a DVR
attain the capability to run your computer's visual through the DVR to your television
record whatever you want onto a DVD+RW
then take the disc and use the DVD ripper attached to this reply
(just unzip and copy the folder on to your HDD and run it)
to rip your video to the computer
default video format for the ripper is .avi
cannot figure out how to change this
but use WME9(windows media encoder*) to convert it to .wmv to edit
this works with xbox and other console games too
just so ya know

*WME is free. go to the microsoft website and search for it

that's all i have
ur welcome

I personally recommend FRAPs for something like this, but don't use it if you have 512mb of RAM, the engine literally goes snail speed during recording!

All the best

Yep, I have camtasia, its good for non-games (like photoshop) but it does cause a load of lag.

That's a very good software; for those looking for a free FRAPS, then check out this piece of (not really) heaven.
