Newcomers DBPro Corner / My Sarcophogus looks weird

I'm sure this has been answered before, but I'm not sure what to look for. The issue is that my sarcophogus object is not being lit correctly. The lid is dark, and the base is stark white. I want to put a texture on it, but when I use TEXTURE OBJECT, it comes out strange.

I have attached a screenshot

So how do I fix this? Or what should I be looking for to find how to fix it?

Forgive me for being blunt, but that's like saying 'here's a picture of my car - can you tell me why it won't start?' Given the model, we can take a look, without it we can only guess.

All we can do right now though is give you a list of maybe's and leave them to you to check.
- Do you have normals set?
- Do you have diffuse set? If so, what to?
- Do you have any texture coordinates set?
- Do you have any default textures set?
- Have you disabled lighting on the object?

Can you please upload your images as .PNG (portable network graphics)? It doesn't lose any quality, yet the file size is much better.

You might need to alter the UV-mapping. There's a possibility that the base is not being UV-mapped properly.

If you've set diffuse (and no lighting) to 255, or set ambient to 255, it would appear white.

I would also suggest using a bump map on those stone walls. It would add an extra dimension to them.

I have no idea what any of that means, so I will start searching on Normals and Diffuse.
Texture Coordinates probably make no difference as there is no texture, ditto for default texture, and I'm not sure how to disable lighting on the object.

Also, how do I bump map?

I added Set Object Normals and Set Object Diffuse commands, but it does not seem to help.
I set the diffuse to RGB(10,10,10) hoping to make it dark grey.

I'm really new at adding models, so any further advice is much appreciated!

Well, I still don't have it figured out, but I added it to my game anyway.

Is there a tutorial on what to look for when adding custom 3D models to a program? Something that goes through and teaches you at least the basics of why a model does not light correctly?

All the terminology can be overwhelming.
All models you make need to be UV mapped. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UV_mapping

Lithunwrap v1.3 is a good uv mapper you can google and download for free.

I've Downloaded Lithunwrap. Can you point me in the direction of a tutorial that will show me what to do with it?
