I've been looking into GDK a bit more, seeing what some of the visual effects have to offer (it's quite a learning curve after coming from DBC). I like the look of the various shader effects, but how do I go about creating my own?

I do know about DarkShader, but there doesn't appear to be a demo - and I'd like the chance to play around with shaders a bit before I actually buy. Does anyone know of any (free) programs I could use as a starting point?

These are the programs:

@Diggsey
I was a bit stunned when I read that - but then I opened an .fx file in notepad and I saw what you meant. I hadn't realised they were just Ascii text!

@IsGreen
I read that forum post when I was doing my searches! Thanks for the download links, I'm just saving Fx Composer 2.5 (but it's one heck of a big file - 220Mb!)

Blimey, you have got a fast connection (about 4Mb per second?). It came through on mine at just 240Kb per second.

Anyway, I've been experimenting with FX composer and it's incredibly powerful. Had a problem getting the .fx files to appear properly on my objects, until I realised I needed to set various Effect Constants at runtime. Now all I need to do is make a shader that looks any good !
