Hi all, I made some pots in 3DS Max, exported them out as .3ds files, but then decided they would look better with a mesh smooth. However none of the smooth settings seem to work on them anymore, so have I missed my chance to make them look smoother, or am I missing something? Thanks for your time.

Try right click > convert to editable poly on the object before applying the mesh smooth. You'll probably also need to collapse the stack before exporting again.

Well in that pic you've used the smooth command, not the meshsmooth or turbosmooth command. The smooth command only alters the vertex normals to affect how smooth it appears by blending polygons into each other. It is not altering the geometry itself.

Thanks for the help and info'. I'm still not getting the look I want, I think I'm going to have to start again on these.

Alright this is pretty easy,

it's a poly that's great, go to sub-abject level and select polygon. make a selection window around your pot. then you can scroll to the bottom on the menu and select smooth group 1.

that should be what you want. it will not add geometry.

my forum (just started it)
