I understand that 2D objects aren't treated as textures but.... is it possible to have scaling or funky alpha or other effects for 2D objects? Any plugins exist for it at least?

Or is this a feature that is planned for the future?

Actually, they are considered textures within DirectX.

Yeah well, sprites have scaling and alpha, no plugin is needed for that
