Hey guys! Well...this is my first 3d board thread!
With a showcase of my first gun model. A Desert Eagle!

I used a wireframe image as a reference.
Cant remember which image that was.
And as i am not a gun type of guy...I really dont know that much of guns.

Anyway here are some shots.
I took screenshots in the beginning and moved on till it was finished.
So you can see the steps that i took.

Hope you like it!
---EDIT---
Removed Imageshack images... since they werent coming up.

Looks great - nice to see a step by step construction for a change too.

What type of models do you concentrate on usually?

Van B. First thanks! I assume you changed the title of the thread?
And... i normally do characters or static scenery.
Right now i do urban scenery, i'll create a thread soon
once i have enough models to show.
As for characters.
Most of the time i create horror characters.

And thanks! Glad you all liked it!

texture = win

Remember those old guys? They made epic renders, I think one of them was called DaVinci, and all they used was MS Paint. Sometimes it's just skill....

Very Good work Darryl!Errant has some competition.
Could you post a pic of the finished wireframe with the texture?

I think you should triangulate it.

Looks like it was mirrored. Delete the center vertices and weld both sides. On attached pic I've marked some parts where you can save some polies (OFC not all, but you can find some alone). And BTW, could you post a side pic?

Make games, not war.

Although depending on if he mirrored the UV Map deleting the center edge loop might cause some issues.

Aren't you always telling people that they shouldn't have some triangles and some quads?

That's in organic models that it matters, they deform and since triangles doesn't really deform all that well it's not good to have them.
In mechanical meshes like this one it really doesn't make that much difference if you have some triangles since the mesh won't deform.

Yep it was mirrored. If i delete the center vertices it would screw the UV a bit up like alucard said.
So i think i'll keep it like it is right now!
But! Maybe in a next gun model (i was thinking of creating a ak47 and such)
i'll keep that in mind.

Yep i know.. some parts were done to quickly so i didnt paid real attention to them.
I could have took the time in creating those parts instead of rushing towards the texturing part.

Oh yeah! Will make a side pic of the model!

INTENSE! Is this the one in the TGC store? And I fail to believe that that is your first gun model. It's WAY too good!

I think you're mistaking yourself a bit. It's not his first model, he has done pretty awesome work previously. Not really a surprise that this is awesome.

Very nice job, incredible! What program(s) did you use, and can you link me to a tutorial on how to use them? (I have no 3D experience whatsoever)

Strelok it uses 546 polygons.
Could have probably add a bit more for some details and such.

But i'll do that when i'll make my next weapon.

Quote: "Very nice job, incredible! What program(s) did you use, and can you link me to a tutorial on how to use them? (I have no 3D experience whatsoever)"

I used 3ds max, Photoshop.
I didnt followed a tutorial for making a gun. Or the texture.
I did followed tutorials over time for increasing my knowledge when it comes to game modeling and texturing.

I am making some tutorials at the moment.
1 tutorial includes a "how to make a building". Which will point out the modeling parts.
And the texturing parts.
This tutorial will not be specified for just 1 software.
Since many people use different softwares for making models.
I'll just set the basics which can be easily done in all programs.
And as for texturing, i'll just set some ideas and some "to do's".
So this could be followed by anyone, not just the people who own the same software package that i use.

And thanks!

And i could have used more space than i did right now!
But, its my first gun model. And i am still very proud of it.

But anyway it's looking really good

I followed some tutorials on the net.
After that i just created a lot of models, with variety of textures.
So you get more skilled as you go on.
