What is the best way to make a map for a FPS i'm making? Should I do it like Dark Dungeon and code it or should I model it in 3ds max 9? Which way is most efficient?

I personally would use some sort of data formatting language like Kaos (by me, unfinished), or XML. Then when parsing, it sets up the map out of individual models.

It depends. I prefer to have the flexibility of embedding them into a flat file format like Zuka suggests. You can create worlds on the fly, and destroy them when your finished easily enough. You obviously need to have a library of materials and textures ready to go, and have them listed (but not necessarily loaded).
The limitation I found with the Dark Dungeon example is that you run out of symbols to represent different objects. And it is too simple a method to handle objects which are co-located (like above one another). Ofcourse, the next thing you will want is a simple map layout tool anyway, which already has the list of objects and textures in it, so you can simply drop everything onto your new map and export the flat map file (in XML). But now this already sounds like the World Creator doesn't it!?! Or is this Kaos?

3D World Studio is my weapon of choice, does great and is quick and easy. I wouldn't bother with what Zuka is saying, I mean I'm sure its cool and everything, but model it yourself and import.

You can download a free trial from the site. http://www.leadwerks.com/3dworldstudio.html

With the file format thing, you can make your own editor, and add different types of objects, such as static or physics entities.

If you don't want to pay for 3D World Studio, EVOLVED made a similar program that may be worth checking out. It's called Map-Scape and is strikingly similar to 3DWS only it's free:

Map-Scape by EVOLVED

Of course it doesn't have all of the features that 3DWS does.

WOW! The post processing effects on that page are BEAUTIFUL! I just wish DarkGDK was kept up D;.

But anyway, about the editor, this HAS to be copyright in someway. Its like a DIRECT rip from 3DWS haha.

Nice find, I recommend this over 3DWS!

EDIT: The light rays are hideous though haha. Still good program!
