Hey everyone, Did anyone see this on the main page of Fpscreator.com? It's apparently a brand new 2 disc dvd set for sale by the game creators. I didn't see a sticky for it so i posted about it. It looks like a good deal for newcomers.

Learn how to get the best from FPS Creator with in depth videos covering characters, segments, lights, way points and much more besides. This 2 DVD disc set contains a large collection of videos that are ideal for new and advanced users of FPS Creator.
DVD 1 Videos:

Beginners

* Start Marker
* Check Points
* Character Entities

Doors

* Player Controlled Doors
* Opening a Door Using a Trigger
* Opening a Door with a Switch
* Doors Opened With Keys
* Fake Doors
* Automatic Doors

Zones

* Heal Zone

DVD 2 Videos:

Build Game Process

For $17.00 or 9 euro it seems as a good deal. So has anyone purchased this? Are they new tutorials or the same ones already available on the site?

Thanks
Punk13

I'm sure you can find some tutorials on You Tube covering all that...

And here: http://www.fpscreator.com/video_tutorials.html. Would have been nice if the videos were different than what's already out there (I'm assuming they're the same), more indepth, like scripting or putting a complete game together, that sort of thing.

Well yeah i hope i mean if its just the same videos jammed together then its a rip off. But if they are new and fresh it would be a nice learning experience.

Lee should do a section on making the fpi scripts, judging by his segment/entity editor tutorials he is very good at explaining and putting across idea to someone that may know nothing about the subject, he has a talent for that I think, so it would be great to have some scripting tutorials from him.
Infact, why not gop the full hog and do some Dark Basic ones, Im sure a lot of us FPSC users would love to be able to do some simple programming, I know I sure would.

I think it's a bit off a rip off to sell something (exactly the same videos) that is already free somewhere else, not to mention cheeky.

I pity those who have bought it while the FPSC tutorial page is still up.

Even though it appears the videos are already available for free I don't begrudge TGC making a little extra cash over the xmas period.

It would make a nice gift to accompany someone getting FPSC on xmas day this year and some people out there are still on dial up so having all of the videos to hand in one package would be good for them.

Obviously this is aimed at beginners who will probably get some benefit from it even if only the novelty of watching the videos on their tv.

FPSC itself is such good value for money I still feel like I owe them some cash. I just purchased Far Cry 2 and Fallout 3 and have barely played them because I'm still more interested in developing something myself.

I agree with aagreen. I wrote a tut that covers a good amount of that, and its free, but paying 17 bucks for that?

EDIT: But for super beginners, it could be helpful I guess.

I think it's a shameless move on the part of tgc, I would love tutorials but not old ones I have to pay an exorbitant price for.

Yes, I agree with Sam. It's really quite a bad move. I know everything about the basics of FPSC now.

Perhaps TGC will create an advanced tutorial disk for FPSC.

Yes you do, but not everyone else does. I still disagree with them selling it for 17 dollars though.

That would be pretty cool.

Yea scripting and Advanced tutorials would be worth it.
And even if they had some guides about game design > lighting, flow, placement of objects, you know tips for building a great game.
At least IMO

honestly I feel that scripting cant be taught too much.
All you would need to know is actions and conditions. There are many ways to create the same function. To become advanced you just need to study the actions/conditions and practice.
I think plystire would agree because he has said similar stuff also.

Indeed! I was actually about to knock you for paraphrasing me without proper reference, but you covered yourself.

I think the only thing to be taught with scripting is the structure. After that, it's all imagination and problem solving (both of which can't really be taught )

I disagree.
I have seen a lot of experienced scripters act shocked to learn that all entites have zones and not just triggers.
Sometimes the basic things can elude us until we see someone else do it.

Maybe so, but seeing unique examples of elaborate scripting may help to encourage others to explore the what-ifs.

Maybe I should make my multiple timer script the basis of an advanced scripting video tutorial?

And NO!
I did not see that at the website yet.

I have been away for awhile and had not even seen the v1.13 yet.

Do you all realize what this means for FPSC when used with the variables?

Okay, this calls for celebration!

I need to take a quarter off from school to get back to work with FPSC.
