Well, I'm starting to use Linux (Ubuntu) a hell of a lot more than my Vista. I just like Linux more, and I'm leaning even more towards the statement: "Microsoft is evil."

But I still want to do DarkBASIC programming. I'm not too good, but DarkBASIC seems to be the best and easiest programming language that I've come across. Sure, Linux has extremely powerful languages like Python and C++, but they're too complicated, especially since I'm used to stuff in DarkBASIC that ain't in other programming languages.

Linux has a program called Wine, which allows you to run Windows program on Linux. It comes packaged with DirectX, but I've been testing out some code from the DB Classic Programming Challenge thread, and that DirectX sucks. All it can run is extremely laggy 2D programs, and simple print and input applications. 3D wont crash it, but it'll just give me a black screen. I'm tired of this. So, does anyone know about some kind of DirectX for Linux that works? Or, even better, a version of DarkBASIC that'll work with Linux? I really don't want to switch programming languages, and I don't want to switch to Vista, either.

This forum also needs a "Preview post" option where you can see your post before posting it, so you can check for grammatical errors and stuff.

Very true. Unfortunately, DirectX IS microsoft, so I would doubt that they would come out with something for other os's

Ever notice how in Microsoft word, the word "microsoft" is auto corrected to be "Microsoft" but "macintosh" just gets the dumb red underline?

You can use a BASIC language in linux.
There are most.
Try to test it and may work.

If you expect 3D graphics,
You must learn OpenGL.
good luck.

Switch to XP, it is old enough that it isn't TOO bad anymore. And an FYI, Microsoft has acknowledged their screw up with Vista, and is now releasing Windows 7 relatively soon.

You can read about it here:

The problem with linux distributions (Packages put together by companies that pull together what they think are the most useful Linux apps) is that often they don't include all of the libraries or support programs you may need/want to run certain apps. The beauty of Linux, and one might say the biggest pain, is that you can completely build it how you want. Takes some knowledge and some persistance, but you may be able to set up you linux OS to work fine with Directx and thus get DB working on it.
linux Direct X

There are many basic languages that work with linux like pcRaider said. Gambas is top notch, there's also X Basic which compiles to machine code (and is compatible with windows - older versions) I think Free Basic also works.

But, don't give up on trying to get DarkBASIC to work in linux. You may be the one that pieces together the puzzle!

Enjoy your day.

You must not be going to let DarkBasic act on linux.
You make DarkBasic working on linux.
A library such as DarkGDK,
You wrap OpenGL and make a DarkBasic command.
A native command is very fast.
